    West Ham boss Sam Allardyce will hand Nene his debut against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

    The 33-year-old Brazilian forward arrived last week on a free transfer but was not deemed ready for a place in the squad for Sunday's 2-2 draw at Tottenham.

    "Nene would have probably featured anyway but he will definitely be involved now because we're down to the two strikers with Andy Carroll's injury and Carlton Cole's new hamstring problem," says Allardyce.

    Carlisle United's Billy Paynter and Gary Dicker have appealed to the Professional Footballers' Association over a fine for refusing to do extra training, reports BBC Radio Cumbria.

    Midfielder Dicker, 28, has not featured for 13 weeks and 30-year-old striker Paynter last played in early December.

    Carlisle boss Keith Curle has said that he could not comment on 'internal issues'.

    The Football Association confirms there will be no further action taken against Burnley striker Ashley Barnes for the challenge which led to Nemanja Matic's red card for Chelsea on Saturday.

    In a series of tweets, the FA outline the protocol in place for not re-refereeing incidents which the match official has seen.

    "In the vast majority of challenges for the ball, no retrospective action is taken as the incident has been seen by the match officials," tweet the FA.

    "Retrospective action introduced as deterrent for 'off the ball incidents' [e.g. kicks, stamps etc.] committed out of sight of officials.

    "Whole game in agreement that, in vast majority of cases, match officials are best-placed to deal with incidents to avoid re-refereeing."

    Worcester City boss Carl Heeley has backed "mild-mannered" Shab Khan following the defender's 'body slam' at Aggborough, claiming that he acted in self-defence.

    The video clip of Khan's angry response to Charlie Russell's challenge in Saturday's Conference North win over Stockport has gone viral on social media, with more than 10 million views.

    "The football club in no way condones reactions like that," said Heeley. "But there had been extreme provocation and we can certainly understand it."

    MK Dons midfielder Dele Alli will miss up to six weeks of the League One promotion race with an ankle injury.

    The 18-year-old has scored 14 times in 36 games for Karl Robinson's second-placed side this season.

    He will receive treatment at his parent club Tottenham, who he joined in January before returning to MK on loan until the end of the season. Alli was injured in last week's 1-0 win over Colchester United, and is unlikely to be available until late March.

    "The head of a Fifa taskforce has told BBC Sport that he sees November or December as the likely months in which the 2022 Qatar World Cup will be staged.

    "Shaikh Salman will head up a meeting of the taskforce on Tuesday and when asked if the tournament could possibly be held in May, said: "I don't think so. When you look at May, I don't think there's a difference between May and June.

    "The purpose is to play it during winter time - personally, I think it's going to be November/December or January/February of '22. And we all know that during the early '22 there's the Winter Olympics and we don't want it to collide during that period. The only option that I see is November/December."

    The Football League fine Mansfield Town, external for fielding an ineligible player in their League Two defeat to Exeter City on 17 January.

    Bermudan midfielder Reggie Lambe played in the match on 17 January, which Mansfield lost 3-2.

    The Stags have been fined £6,000, with £4,500 of the sum suspended for 12 months.

    "Sprinter Sacre is 3-1 favourite, ahead of 2014 Champion Sire De Grugy at 7-2 for the March 11 race."

    The England international sustained a knee-ligament injury in training, forcing him out of Saturday's 5-0 win over Newcastle.

    Elsewhere, Jenson Button claims McLaren's test programme is "43% complete" and not 50% as suggested by team boss Eric Boullier.

    Lotus technical director Nick Chester also says the most encouraging aspect of the final day of the second test in Barcelona was the mileage completed rather than Romain Grosjean posting the fastest time.

    Manchester City won 5-0 against Newcastle on Saturday, in Yaya Toure's first game back after he helped Ivory Coast win the Africa Cup of Nations, while Toure's international team-mate, Wilfried Bony, also made his debut for the club in that game.

    "I always prefer to play with Yaya in my team, but we can play without him also," says boss Manuel Pellegrini. "We played without him against Roma and Bayern Munich.

    Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri tells a news conference the club have to make their own history in the Champions League.

    City meet Barcelona on Tuesday in the first-leg of their last-16 tie. Barca beat Manuel Pellegrini's side 4-1 on aggregate in last season.

    "This year is totally different," says Nasri. "We will respect them but we won't be scared.

    "Barca has a great philosophy of football. "It can be fun if you play your game, but if they have possession it's not fun."
