"I think actually now for an English football team this might be the best thing that's ever happened. We're going into a World Cup about halfway into our own season and we can actually have a real chance of being fresh and doing well in a tournament."

But Rowntree said: "Browny completed a running-based session today. We'll see how he reacts to that overnight as to what part of a team session he could do tomorrow. Of course that would be a non-contact element of the team session he would be able to do.

More of your thoughts on a November/December World Cup in Qatar.

Sakriya: Qatar might not have been best choice but i support winter world cup in Arab. Arab countries deserve World Cup in their country too.

Richard Easton: European Football doesn't run world football. Winter World Cup gives clubs, fans and players a much needed break.

Tarl Smith: European leagues can take a break? Er... won't our players be playing a gruelling shortened World Cup schedule in Qatar?

Marknpablo: Winter World Cup = great idea. Winter Premier League break, summer free for family holidays, reasonable temperature for fans and players.

  16. 'A difficult challenge for the football family'published at 13:50 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, chairman of the European Clubs Association, has released a statement in response to the decision that Qatar is set to host the World Cup in November and December of 2022.

"Today's recommendation of the Task Force regarding the Fifa World Cup 2022 in Qatar does not come as a surprise; it was rather expected," says Rummenigge.

"For the football family the rescheduling of the Fifa World Cup 2022 presents a difficult and challenging task. All match calendars across the world will have to accommodate such tournament in 2022/23, which requires everyone's willingness to compromise.

"However, the European clubs and leagues cannot be expected to bear the costs for such rescheduling. We expect the clubs to be compensated for the damage that a final decision would cause."

More of your thoughts on a November/December World Cup in Qatar.

James Grandidge: So the European teams will have to start qualification for the Euros as preparation for the World Cup?

James Gammons: Issue for me is nobody voted for a winter WC, they voted for a summer one, there has to be a revote if the proposal change.

Dom Merrison: Lower league clubs may benefit from the break in live footy in the Prem/Champ as fans seek a 'live footy fix' at local clubs.

Tim Little: At least a winter World Cup means players won't be burnt out after a long hard season. England might actually benefit.
