"We go into the game with an advantage, but we know the difficulties of the task ahead of us," says Allegri.

"I am confident it will be an interesting game and I don't expect it to end 0-0. We need to score at least once and if we could score twice it would be great."

The Spanish leaders hold a 2-1 first-leg advantage against last-16 Champions League opponents City, before hosting Madrid in a potentially decisive La Liga title clash at the Nou Camp.

"There's only one match on our minds and that's the one against City. Not the Clasico," Luis Enrique says.

A clearance from Cardiff goalkeeper Simon Moore cannoned into Wilson and then off the crossbar, with the striker following the ball into an empty net.

Referee Lee Mason ruled the effort out and then booked Wilson.

Howe told BBC Radio Solent: "Callum did that all night. He didn't move, didn't follow the keeper, he held his ground and by the laws of the game that is perfectly acceptable. It's a goal that should have stood."

    Giedo van der Garde

Some breaking news from the world of Formula 1 to bring you now. Dutchman Giedo van der Garde has given up his rights to race for the Sauber team after a prolonged legal battle.

Van der Garde had argued in court that the team had promised him a race seat for this season - a claim that was upheld, raising the possibility that the team would be forced to accommodate him in their driver line-up.

But he has now reached a settlement with the team to terminate his contract by mutual consent.

In a statement on Facebook, he said: "As a passionate race driver, I feel sad and am very disappointed. All I want is to race. However, the team principal was adamant not to let me drive. To push on against this determination might have brought down the team. I decided I did not want to live with that idea."

So, what did Arsene Wenger make of the defeat to Monaco? Well, the Arsenal manager was in fairly bullish mood, claiming that Monaco did not deserve to go through.

Asked if Monaco deserved to progress, Wenger said: "I don't believe so. If you look at the number of shots on target they had you will be surprised. Every defeat hurts but we didn't lose."
