    The FA confirms that West Brom have been successful in a claim against mistaken identity for Gareth McAuley's red card on Saturday.

    Referee Neil Swarbrick admitted he sent off the wrong man at the Etihad Stadium after Craig Dawson had fouled City striker Wilfried Bony.

    "The standard one match suspension is now transferred to Craig Dawson, with immediate effect," the FA says in a statement.

    Paddy McNair hopes he can realise his ambition of playing for Northern Ireland in Wednesday's friendly against Scotland at Hampden Park.

    The Manchester United defender, 19, is expected to make his debut in the game.

    "It would be a dream come true if that happens. It would be a very proud day for me and my family," says McNair.

    Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel will be charged by the Football Association for the incident with Manchester United's David De Gea at Anfield yesterday.

    It is expected Skrtel will be charged with breach of rule E3 - violent conduct.

    Skrtel appeared to stand on De Gea's leg in the final seconds of the game, which United won 2-1. Referee Martin Atkinson was due to send in his report this morning, with the FA free to act if the official confirmed he had not seen the incident.

    As yet, the FA have made no comment on the matter.

    Aguero is with the Argentina squad ahead of their friendly against El Salvador on Saturday which is being played at the greatly named FedExField in Landover, Maryland.

    That's the home of the Washington Redskins in case you were wondering.

    Lionel Messi's performances can be mesmerising to watch but for Ander Herrera, they almost move him to tears.

    Speaking to El Pais, the Manchester United midfielder said: "The last time I cried? I almost cried watching Messi against Man City. He's so good!

    "But anyway, I get emotional very easily. But hey, I get excited easily and not only with the major teams. I'm a classic man and I was delighted when we played vs Yeovil Town in front of 8,000 standing people yelling at me: "Who are you?""

    Iwan Roberts believes Gareth Bale should look to move back to the Premier League if he continues to receive criticism.

    On Monday, Spanish newspaper Marca claimed that it was obvious Real president Florentino Perez had "paid 100m euros for someone worth 20m euros" whilst fellow publication AS refused to rate the Real Madrid forward's performance in Sunday's El Clasico.

    Former Wales international Roberts says: "He is still a young lad and if he is still getting the stick he has been getting over the last four or five months now, come to somewhere people appreciate you."

    Former Swansea City striker Itay Shechter has been named in Israel's squad for Saturday's Euro 2016 qualifier against Wales.

    Charlton defender Tal Ben Haim, Celtic's Nir Bitton and Beram Kayal of Brighton have also been included in coach Eli Guttman's 25-man squad.

    Israel top the group having won all three of their games so far.

    Wales are a point behind in second with two wins and two draws from their four games.

    "Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is being assessed by England medical staff at St George's Park today, having picked up a hip injury.

    "Unlike his injured club team-mate Adam Lallana, the striker did report for training with the national team today but is now considered a doubt for the Euro 2016 qualifier with Lithuania on Friday.

    "Sturridge's potential absence could pave the way for Tottenham's Harry Kane to make his debut at Wembley."

    Warrington Wolves prop Ben Evans has been ruled out for four months after having surgery on a ruptured hamstring. The 22-year-old Wales international was injured in Wolves' 32-24 loss at Super League leaders St Helens on Thursday.

    Uefa general secretary Gianni Infantino wants European nations to be granted an extra qualifying spot for the Fifa World Cup in 2018.

    Thirteen European countries competed at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and Infantino wants a 14th in 2018, in addition to Russia, who qualify automatically as hosts.

    "If you look at it objectively, 19 of the top 32 ranked associations are European," he said. "The winners of the last three World Cups were three European teams, so I think it's absolutely objective and fair."

    Watch the video of Fenerbahce striker Emmanuel Emenike asking to be substituted in the 1-0 victory over Besiktas after he received abuse from his own fans.

    The Nigeria international reacted angrily to jeers after losing the ball and took his shirt off, storming off the pitch, only be to be talked back on by his coaching staff.

    He was replaced at half-time.

    Walsall manager Dean Smith says he was disappointed the Saddlers did not give their fans more to shout about in Sunday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy final defeat by Bristol City.

    The Saddlers' first-ever appearance at Wembley ended in a 2-0 loss.

    "I'm proud of all the supporters," Smith told BBC WM 95.6. "They got behind us in their droves. We just wanted to give them more to shout about.

    "The build-up is superb, but Wembley is no place to be on the losing team. We were very down on the coach on the way home but we've just got to pick ourselves up now for the rest of the season."

    Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, external has withdrawn from Belgium's upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against Cyprus and Israel.

    The 21-year-old limped off during Everton's 2-1 win at QPR on Sunday after reporting a problem with his right hamstring.

    Belgium will play Cyprus in Brussels on Saturday before travelling to Jerusalem to take on Israel next Tuesday.

    Manager Marc Wilmots confirmed Lukaku had reported for duty but wouldn't be featuring.

    Darren Clarke admits the timing of his appointment as European Ryder Cup captain could not be better.

    The Northern Irishman will attempt to lead Europe to a historic fourth successive victory at Hazeltine, United States in 2016.

    His good friend Davis Love will lead the American team for the second time.

    "If I could have chosen where and when, then it would have been America and now," said the 46-year-old.

    In case you hadn't noticed, it's the start of international week and not a great start to preparations for the Republic of Ireland.

    Jeff Hendrick, Anthony Pilkington and David McGoldrick are out of the Euro 2016 qualifier against Poland on Sunday.

    Derby midfielder Hendrick, who started in the Republic's qualifier defeat by Scotland in November, has a hip injury.

    Cardiff's Pilkington has a hamstring problem with Ipswich striker McGoldrick missing because of a thigh injury.

    Jonathan Walters, Aiden McGeady, Robbie Brady and Glenn Whelan remain in the squad despite recent injury concerns.

    Some breaking news from rugby union and former England and Lions wing Ugo Monye has announced his retirement, external from the game at the end of the season.

    The 31-year-old won 14 caps for England and played two Tests for the Lions in 2009, scoring a crucial try in the third Test victory against South Africa at Ellis Park.

    Monye has played over 200 times for his club Harlequins, winning the Premiership title in 2012.
