    1926: Sir Jack Brabham, the Australian three-time Formula One world champion and the only driver in the sport's history to win the championship in a car of his own construction, was born. He died on 19 May 2014, aged 88.

    1977: Red Rum won his record third Grand National, winning by 25 lengths from Churchtown Boy. Charlotte Brew, on Barony Fort, became the first woman to take part in the race.

    1993: Jonathan Davies kicked a record 10 goals as Great Britain's rugby league team set a new Test best victory of 72-6, against France at Swinton.

    2002: Jockey Tony McCoy broke Sir Gordon Richards' 55-year record for winners in a season when he recorded his 270th win of the campaign at Warwick.

    2003: Wimbledon received final approval from the Football League for their temporary move to the National Hockey Stadium in Milton Keynes.

    2009: Sven-Goran Eriksson was sacked as coach of the Mexico national team.

    Exeter Chiefs prop Alex Brown has agreed a new contract to keep him at Sandy Park until 2017.

    The 25-year-old has made 50 appearances since signing for the club from Doncaster in 2012.

    Exeter have also signed Nottingham hooker Shaun Malton on a two-year deal from next season.

    England-qualified Malton, 25, is a former South Africa youth international, joined Nottingham from London Irish in 2012.

    As Rory McIlroy aims to complete a career grand slam with a green jacket on 12 April, he has spoken about his Masters meltdown four years ago.

    The Northern Irishman led by four shots going into the last day at Augusta, but dropped six in three holes and ended up carding an 80.

    He described his final-round collapse at the 2011 tournament as the "most important day" of his career.

    "I learned so much about myself and what I needed to do the next time I got into that position," he said.

    Glasgow Warriors captain Al Kellock will retire from rugby at the end of the season.

    Kellock, 33, who has been the Warriors captain for the past nine seasons, has played 154 games for the club and captained the team for the 150th time in the 34-34 draw with Leinster in Dublin on Friday.

    QPR manager Chris Ramsey has been quite strong on the lack of black managers in English football.

    Director of football at the club, Les Ferdinand recently said that covert racism was rife, external and preventing ethnic minorities from gettng top jobs in football.

    Ramsey said he agreed with Ferdinand.

    "We're still at this stage in the game we are highlighting I'm still the only black Premier League manager," he said. "It's not the norm to have ethnic minority managers in this position."

    A last bit from Roberto Martinez, who was asked if the club will sign Barcelona wonderkid Gerard Deulofeu, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Everton last season.
