  1. Everton news conferencepublished at 09:58 British Summer Time 2 April 2015

Everton boss Roberto Martinez was asked if the club is already looking to next season?

"It would be a big mistake. There are 24 points still to play for and we want to fight to get as high as possible in the table. We have five home games and three away games and we want to make the most of that home advantage.

"We have won our last two games, which have given us confidence and belief, and we want to continue that momentum."

Roberto Martinez has also talked about Ross Barkley's impressive impact for England.

"He is used to having to deal with extremes. When he is playing well he's called the best footballer in England, but when he has a bad game, it changes. What is true is that he has an incredible level of maturity," said the Spaniard.

"He's learned a lot having come through a serious injury (knee) and it doesn't surprise me that he made a good impact coming off the bench in both England's games. "I think he is a better player for that experience of the injury.

"Ross is one who takes responsibility in big moments of games and has developed that physicality as well. There are not many footballers in Europe with the same level of ability."

Roberto Martinez has been speaking ahead of Saturday's match against Southampton.

"I will be surprised if they don't qualify for Europe and finish in the top five or six," said Martinez, on the Saints, who are currently sixth.

"Manager Ronald Koeman has done exceptionally well. They are physically strong and well organised. Defensively they have the best record in the league and there are reasons for that. Their foreign players have done really well and that's a reflection of the way they enjoy working in that environment. It tells you a lot."

Leslie Rogers: Sterling has made it patently clear by this interview that it is INDEED about the money.

Ryan_lfc_giants: Sterling isn't worth that. Coutinho agreed a 70k contract weeks ago and is better player. Club can't afford to set a precedent.

Jay G: We would all love to further our careers and achieve more, not sure why Sterling should be criticised for doing the same.

"What is mathematically possible you have to try to achieve but that's not all down to us. We can only master our own performances," he said.

William Swayne: I like Sterling, but his performances this season haven't justified the deal he wants. I'd sell him and keep Jordon Ibe.

Hamza: Straight out of a greedy footballer's handbook: "I dont care about money, its all about winning trophies"

CJ: Sterling isn't worth it. He is so overrated. He doesn't have much to offer. He will ultimately be sold on for very little.

Anyway, BBC Sport's Frank Keogh says:

"Ferguson was back riding on Thursday, 14 hours after emerging unscathed.

"Ferguson and his horse Merrion Square were unhurt despite what the Washington Post called the rider's "540-degree flying flip.

"The jockey said he felt 'fine' and was riding out at the stables of eight-time champion trainer Paul Nicholls on Thursday morning."

More from England head coach Peter Moores:

"For me Kevin's not on this trip, so I don't need to focus on Kevin at all.

"My focus is to support Alastair [Cook] as I always would and the 16 players on this tour. At the end of that summer (last year) we'd gone through a tough summer, and started to play the sort of attacking cricket people like, and we like.

"That's our focus at the moment. From my point of view Kevin isn't on the radar. He can't be in my or Cooky's focus at all."

  19. 'Pietersen not on radar'published at 08:42 British Summer Time 2 April 2015
