Swansea have suffered an injury blow with the news that defender Kyle Naughton is out for the rest of the season with ankle ligament damage.

Blackpool became the first club from the top four leagues to be relegated at the weekend, completing a miserable few years which has seen them slump from Premier League to League One.

The club's slide, which many blame on chairman Karl Oyston, has led to several former players - including Charlie Adam - expressing their sadness in the Blackpool Gazette, external.

Fresh from scoring his wonder-goal at Chelsea, Adam - who led Pool to the top-flight in 2010 - said: "It's sad to hear of Blackpool's relegation. It's a special club with unbelievable supporters."

Adam's former midfield partner Keith Southern was more damning. "The club appears to be without leadership, direction, structure and proper investment," he said. "Where does it go from here? Unless things change, it's only going one way and that's down again."

  3. Redknapp fears for Pellegrini futurepublished at 09:51 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

Former Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has told BBC Radio 5 live he fears for Manuel Pellegrini's future at Manchester City.

"I only met him a couple of times but he's a smashing fella," Redknapp said. "He knows the game. This year hasn't been a great year for them, it looks like they're going to end up with no trophies and that's the name of the game.

"I hope he gets a chance again next year but I wouldn't like to bet on it."

As for City's Premier League hopes, Redknapp said: "I certainly think that's the end of the title challenge."

  4. The boy who grew up at Augustapublished at 09:41 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

As a boy, Carl Jackson would swim and fish in Rae's Creek. He would bring along a frying pan, a stove and some grease and cook the bream where he reeled it in, on the banks of Augusta National's 12th green.

This week, Jackson will caddie in his 53rd and final Masters. He was 14 when he caddied in his first, in 1961 and he has twice helped Ben Crenhsaw - for whom he has caddied at the course since 1976 - to win it.

BBC Sport Ben Dirs has interviewed a man with a fascinating life story, who grew up in an era when the views of Clifford Roberts, co-founder of Augusta National, held sway.

"As long as I'm alive, all the golfers will be white and all the caddies black," Roberts said. He killed himself in 1977, on Augusta's par-three course, two years after Lee Elder became the first black man to play the Masters.

In case you missed it last night, the England cricket team have begun their tour of the West Indies with a warm-up against a St Kitts and Nevis XI.

It hasn't exactly proved the most taxing workout for Alastair Cook's men so far. They skittled the hosts for 59, with Ben Stokes taking three wickets.

In reply, England cantered to 181-1 at the end of day one, with Jonathan Trott making 72 in his first appearance for England since leaving the last Ashes tour with a stress-related illness, and Cook himself reaching 95 not out.

We'll bring you updates from the second day when the match resumes this afternoon.

  6. Get Involvedpublished at 09:24 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

Roberto Mancini finds himself in the headlines in Italy, and not for the right reasons.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reckon Mancini's Inter - held 1-1 at the weekend by bottom-of-the-table and bankrupt Parma, who are being funded by the Italian league to see out their fixtures - have never been so bad in the era of three points for a win. Sitting 10th in Serie A, they will miss out on qualifying for any European competition next season.

There is a smidgeon of good news for Mancini though - the paper say his position is "not under scrutiny".

  8. Lively Ligue 1published at 09:11 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

While the Premier League title race looks to be all over, things could scarcely be more different across the Channel.

France's Ligue 1 looks set for a thrilling conclusion, with Paris St-Germain leading Lyon by just one point, and Marseille still in contention four points further back.

"Marvellous Ligue 1" is the headline on the front page of French sports daily L'Equipe this morning, and who could disagree?

  9. Burgled at Selhurst Parkpublished at 09:01 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

Tuesday's Independent back pageImage source, The Independent

City's defeat also features on the front page of the Independent Sport, although writer Tom Peck takes a slightly more sympathetic view.

He writes:, external "They were dominant. They were irresistible. But in the noise of the South London night, they allowed themselves to be burgled."

But he adds: "The best teams are always a blend of rapacious youth and wise old heads. City are not."

There is also an interesting line on Liverpool. The Independent reports that Brendan Rodgers has blamed the club's strikers for their poor run of form.

  10. Beginning of the end for Pellegrini?published at 08:52 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

Tuesday's Daily Mirror back pageImage source, Daily Mirror

I'm afraid there's no let-up in the pronouncements of doom, City fans. The Mirror says "the obituaries can now be written" on City's title challenge.

Chief football writer John Cross is in doubt: "Defeat at Selhurst Park will surely signal the beginning of the end of Manuel Pellegrini's roller-coaster two year reign at the Etihad," he writes., external

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood also features on the back page. He says his team face "the game of their lives" when they take on QPR in the Premier League this evening. We'll be bringing you all the build-up to that later today.

  11. Floored by Puncheonpublished at 08:43 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

Tuesday's Daily Telegraph back pageImage source, Daily Telegraph

It's a similar verdict in the Daily Telegraph. Football correspondent Henry Winter calls it a "disastrous defeat",, external adding: "The result surely ends any fading dream of keeping their Premier League title and could cost Manuel Pellegrini his job."

Winter says the manager must bear some of the responsibility for City's malaise. "Why does Pellegrini keep changing his defence, limiting the chance of developing understanding?" he asks.

The front page of the Sport pull-out also carries an image of Katie Walsh, who yesterday became only the third female rider to win the Irish National.

  12. City's season in tatterspublished at 08:36 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

Tuesday's Daily Express back pageImage source, Daily Express

So what do this morning's papers make of Manchester City's title slip-up? Let's start with the Express.

The paper says City's title hopes have been left "in tatters".

"Any prospects of the league trophy were snuffed out - and now Pellegrini's side face a battle to secure second place," football reporter Tony Paskin writes., external

Here's something you don't see every day - a big smile on the face of Tiger Woods.

This week sees the first major of the year, the Masters at Augusta, and Tiger believes he can challenge for the Green Jacket.

Woods is ranked 111 in the world after an injury-hit season, but he says he believes his game is "in a spot where I could compete to win a golf tournament".

  14. Pellegrini 'not concerned' about jobpublished at 08:22 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

    Manuel PellegriniImage source, Getty Images

City manager Manuel Pellegrini is putting a brave face on the defeat.

The Chilean says he is "not concerned" about his future at the Etihad, despite his predecessor Roberto Mancini losing his job after failing to deliver silverware in 2013.

"I never have fear about it, I do my work, I'm very happy. The team maybe have a difficult season but never worry about me," he said.

The pundits are not so sure though. BBC Radio 5 live's Ian Dennis said: "We might as well call Chelsea 'champions elect' now and Pellegrini will be under scrutiny," while the Mail on Sunday's Oliver Holt tweeted:, external "I find it hard to see hard City sticking with Pellegrini next season."

  15. City slip uppublished at 08:13 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

But first to events at Selhurst Park. Manchester City were expected to keep the pressure on Chelsea with a win over a side who hadn't beaten them since 2001, but goals from Glenn Murray and Jason Puncheon stunned the champions.

They did manage to reply through a Yaya Toure thunderbolt, but they couldn't find an equaliser as their miserable streak on the road continued.

It's a potentially defining result in the title race, with City falling nine points behind leaders Chelsea, who have a game in hand. Worse still, Manuel Pellegrini's side have now fallen to fourth in the table, behind Arsenal and fierce rivals Manchester United - a turn of events that would have seemed unthinkable at Christmas.

No wonder Manuel Pellegrini couldn't watch. Last night saw Manchester City slip to a 2-1 loss at Crystal Palace, a fourth straight away defeat and one that deals a potentially terminal blow to their hopes of retaining the title.

City are now fourth, nine points off Chelsea's lead. The side expected to provide the sternest challenge for Jose Mourinho's team are ending the season with a whimper rather than a bang.

Last season saw one of the closest title races on record. This season - with seven games still to go - is it already done and dusted?
