    Bad news for Kevin-Prince Boateng.

    The former Spurs and Portsmouth frontman has been released by Bundesliga club FC Schalke - and judging by the statement on the club's website, he must have had a bad game at the weekend.

    "Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt announced there would be consequences after Sunday's defeat to FC Köln and the first action has been taken," read the statement, external.

    "Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sidney Sam have been released with immediate effect."

    Lee Clark quit as manager of relegated Blackpool because he decided "enough was enough".

    According to the Blackpool Gazette, external, Clark - who announced his resignation on Saturday - was not convinced he could turn around a club that went down with the lowest points total ever mustered in the Championship (25).

    The season ended in disarray when the final game, with Huddersfield, was abandoned after a pitch invasion.

    "After seeing what happened in the final game, I had serious concerns about whether or not I could turn it around," Clark said. "It hasn't worked out at Blackpool."

    Richard Money has signed a new three-year contract with Cambridge United and has been given the new title of football manager by the League Two club.

    Money, 59, had been the U's head coach and will remain in charge of the first team but will now be responsible for player recruitment.

    Signing players had been the job of chief executive Jez George in his previous role as director of football.

    Ex-Colchester manager Joe Dunne will replace Alan Neilson as assistant boss.

    Ian Holloway has been talking, and has made what sounds suspiciously like a "come and get me" plea to Blackpool.

    Holloway, who memorably led the Seasiders to the Premier League in 2010, is available after losing his job at Millwall in March.

    "I want to get back in work. People are still talking about why I might have l left Blackpool (in the first place). I want to build something that means something to the fans and if that's not the case then I won't consider doing it," he told Sky Sports News.

    "For me it is about having a chance to make something better and to improve it it and if that not case I won't even try. If I don't think I'm the right man I will tell the owner that."

    Lancashire director of cricket Ashley Giles has accused the England and Wales Cricket Board of short-term thinking following the sacking of national team head coach Peter Moores.

    "One of the biggest problems is that we can't see past tomorrow at the moment," Giles told BBC Radio Lancashire. "Whether you're a coach, whether you're a selector or whether you're a player, you don't know whether you're going to be here next week."

    Giles played 54 Tests for England and had a spell as limited-overs coach, only to be removed in April 2014 after 17 months in charge.

    Julian Salvi is leaving Leicester Tigers at the end of the season, director of rugby Richard Cockerill has confirmed.

    The 29-year-old Australian flanker's contract runs out in the summer and he had been in talks with the club about extending his deal.

    Cockerill told BBC Radio Leicester: "The saga around that is what it is. Julian is moving on - that's life."

    BBC Sport's Alistair Magowan reports: "Having experimented heavily, it will be interesting to see what England boss Mark Sampson considers his strongest squad when he names the 23 players he will be taking to Canada for the World Cup in June.

    "During his 18-month reign, he has re-introduced several players who were frozen out under former boss Hope Powell such as midfielders Katie Chapman and Jo Potter as well as striker Lianne Sanderson. And he started the last game against China with forwards Jodie Taylor and Fran Kirby, who have 16 caps between them. Finally we should see a squad of his own making."

    A man has been arrested over an alleged assault on Chesterfield captain Ian Evatt on the pitch after the League One club's play-off defeat at Preston.

    Evatt said he was "punched, kicked and spat on" by rival fans after his team lost 3-0 in the second leg of their play-off semi-final at Deepdale.

    The 33-year-old, who police said was not seriously hurt, used to play for Blackpool, Preston's Lancashire rivals.

    A 20-year-old man from Preston, is being held on suspicion of assault, police said.

    In what sounds like it will an event well worth going to, world junior champion Dina Asher-Smith goes head to head with Jodie Williams over 200m.

    In the men's 100m, there's arguably an even tastier showdown between Adam Gemili, world indoor 60m champion Richard Kilty and sub-10 second man Chijindu Ujah.

    On top of that, Martyn Rooney and Matthew Hudson-Smith - the top two from the 400m at last year's European Championships in Zurich - will compete over the rarely run 300m distance.

    The uplifting BBC drama Marvellous was among the winners at the Bafta awards on Sunday night.

    Based on the true story of Neil 'Nello' Baldwin, played by Toby Jones, it tells how a man defied being labelled as having learning difficulties to lead a remarkable life.

    After a spell as a circus clown, Neil was offered a job as kit man for Stoke City Football Club by then manager Lou Macari.

    Under former coach Hope Powell, England crashed out of Euro 2013 at the group stage without winning a game.

    During a 100% qualifying campaign, Sampson has brought in several old faces and some new recruits, and must now choose a squad to navigate out of a group including France, Mexico and Colombia.
