    American Rickie Fowler beat Sergio Garcia and Kevin Kisner in a play-off on a dramatic final day at the Players Championship at Sawgrass.

    The trio finished on 12-under but Fowler beat Kisner at the first sudden death hole after Garcia was earlier eliminated.

    It was his second PGA Tour win after success in the Wells Fargo Championship in August 2012.

    "I felt really good all week, this is special," said the 26-year-old.

    Terrible news just in from Belgium, where lower-league footballer Tim Nicot has become the second player to die of cardiac arrest in the last two weeks.

    The 23-year-old left-back for fourth-tier Wilrijk-Beerschot was playing in a tournament in Hemiksem when he collapsed on Friday.

    He was placed in an induced coma and his club confirmed his death on Monday.

    In late April, Lokeren defender Gregory Mertens died after collapsing during a reserve game.

    Chesterfield captain Ian Evatt said he was "punched, kicked and spat on" on the pitch by rival fans after the League One club's defeat at Preston.

    Evatt claimed he was attacked after the Spireites were beaten 3-0 in the second leg of their play-off semi-final at Deepdale to lose 4-0 on aggregate.

    The 33-year-old used to play for Blackpool, Preston's Lancashire rivals.

    "How long will this go on until there's a serious incident? It's too easy for fans to invade pitches," Evatt said.

    Richard Money has signed a new three-year contract with Cambridge United, with his job title changed from head coach to football manager.

    The League Two club have revamped their first-team coaching set-up and Money's new responsibilities will include being in charge of player recruitment.

    Former Colchester boss Joe Dunne is joining the club as assistant manager, while assistant coach Alan Neilson has left.

    Northants will start day two against Derbyshire on 0-0 after 18-year-old Matthew Critchley made 137 out of the home side's 343 all out, while Gloucestershire are 322-7 against Lancashire at Old Trafford following opener Chris Dent's 116.

    There was also a first-day century in the final Division Two game, with Kent's Daniel Bell-Drummond making 123 in their 330-8 against Glamorgan.

    Andrew Strauss isn't going to get a cushy, pressure-free start to life in his role as England's new director of cricket.

    He has been told it will be his decision to pick England's new head coach.

    Colin Graves - who starts his own role as the England and Wales Cricket Board's chairman on Thursday - told The Times, external: "It is Andrew who takes that call about the coach as he builds his team around him. "It is his recommendation and he will bring that to (chief executive) Tom Harrison and then to me."

    Yorkshire's Aussie coach Jason Gillespie remains favourite to get the job.

    Murray needed only 88 minutes to beat Rafael Nadal on Sunday and happily scribed 'Marriage Works!' on the lens of a court-side TV camera afterward.

    Murray married Kim Sears at Dunblane Cathedral last month.

    He said: "Marriage has been nice and a lot of people have spoken about the honeymoon period. I've always said if the personal stuff is happy and under control that helps your performance on the court."

    England women's international Kate Cross took eight wickets in a Lancashire men's league match.

    Kate Cross was one of 18 women awarded a professional contract by the ECB in April 2014.

    Fast bowler Cross returned figures of 8-47 as Heywood bowled Unsworth out for 121 in their Central Lancashire League fixture and won by six wickets.

    In April, 23-year-old Cross became the first woman to play in the league in its 123-year-history.

    Cross, who also plays for Lancashire women, took 3-19 on her debut to help Heywood beat Clifton in April.

    Britain's Para-triathletes won two bronze medals in Sunday's Madrid ITU World Paratriathlon event.

    Andy Lewis, a single leg amputee, had one of the best races of his career in the PT2 category, finishing behind Russia's reigning world and European champion Vasily Egorov and Italy's former world champion Michele Ferrarin.

    Melissa Reid won bronze in the PT5 classification for visually impaired athletes.

    Warwickshire will look to extend a healthy 220-run lead against neighbours Worcestershire on day three of their match at Edgbaston, with skipper Varun Chopra 72 not out overnight.

    Yorkshire batsman Jack Leaning will look to follow Jonny Bairstow to a century when he starts day two on 77 not out against Hampshire at Headingley.

    There is a similar scenario in the other two Division One games, with Durham 69-3 and Sussex 66-3 against Notts and Middlesex respectively, after bowling their opponents out on the opening day.

    Ipswich forward Paul Anderson offered to pay for damage caused when a fan momentarily "lost it" and punched a hole in a ceiling while celebrating his goal.

    Ross Morgan, 25, was watching the Ipswich v Norwich play-off match on television at home on Saturday when Anderson equalised. In his excitement, Mr Morgan jumped and put a fist-sized hole in the ceiling.

    After he tweeted a photograph of the damage, Ipswich winger Anderson offered to foot the bill.

    Lovely stuff.

    The League One game with Coventry was Keighley's first since Wales international Jones collapsed at London Skolars last Saturday and later died aged 29 because of a heart condition.

    His wife, Lizzie, and the couple's five-month-old twins, Bobby and Phoebe went onto the field prior to kick-off.

    "The club doesn't know what has hit it," said chairman Gary Fawcett.

    "It was chaotic," said Cavendish, who was led out by team-mate Mark Renshaw.

    "When Mark [Renshaw] is stressing you know it's stressful. But I don't have to think too much even with the chaos, so I can focus on saving energy for the sprint."
