Andreas Watt: Be interesting to translate Rooney's caps into minutes on the pitch. Given that many of Charltons caps came pre substitution.

Nick Hunt: Greavsie scored 26 of his 44 goals in just nine of his 57 appearances and just one at a World Cup. Perspective.

Agustine: One goal in three world cups doesn't make the greatest attacker. Rooney may not even be top 10!

Rob Kelly: Lineker - scored goals when offside favoured defenders and the professional foul was a tactic rather than a red card offence.

Now here's a story you don't see every day.

Nottingham Forest fan has, as you do, recreated the club's European Cup winning squad ... in Lego.

Nigel Daws, 44, painstakingly recreated the detail and expressions of legendary figures Brian Clough, Peter Taylor, Kenny Burns and John Robertson, the Nottingham Post reports., external

"It takes quite a while to put together and can take me four to five days to complete, costing around £250 in materials, especially when you take into account recreating Kenny Burns' face can cost anything up to £5 alone," Mr Daws added.

"Trying to find a mullet for Peter Shilton's hair was a real task, but I managed to take it from one of the Simpson's characters, while the facial expressions of John McGovern and Archie Gemmill were a particular challenge."

    Quite.

Andy Owens: Wayne Rooney is top class. Deal with it. Comparisons are pointless given how the game has changed. Outstanding achievement!

Kendra Rogers:  George Camsell - best goals per game ratio of 18 goals in 9 England appearances.

Fresh from breaking England’s all-time goalscoring record, BBC One will tell the story of the real Wayne Rooney.

With unprecedented access to his home and family, plus figures from world football, Rooney has allowed the cameras to go behind the scenes with him to deliver a personal portrait of the man behind the footballer.

The one-off 60 minute film, ‘Rooney – The Man Behind the Goals’ will be shown on BBC One at 21:00 BST on Monday, 5 October.

Rooney said: “I have been approached many times about allowing the cameras into our lives and always said no. But now seems the right time. England's greatest ever striker is Sir Geoff Hurst.

Wayne Rooney, Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker were all outstanding over an extended period. Sir Bobby Charlton was used in midfield and up front. But the measure of greatness is the ability to produce when it matters. In English football’s entire history it has never mattered more than 30 July 1966. Hurst remains the only man to score a hat-trick in the biggest game of all.

Northampton Town fans are planning a peaceful protest before Saturday's League Two match against Oxford United over the club's protracted takeover and Sixfields Stadium redevelopment.

Cobblers chairman David Cardoza has been in the process of selling the club to an Indian consortium since June.

The consortium's identity has still yet to be revealed, and the work to Sixfields' East Stand has stalled.

"It's badly timed - let's hope it doesn't have an impact," said Cardoza. "The reason people are having their protest, the prospective owners are here to sort all these problems out. The fact they are protesting could work against us."
