Who is the greatest?published at 13:20

    Football

    John Murray
    BBC Radio 5 live commentator

Wayne Rooney is the greatest in terms of being top of the list. Geoff Hurst is the greatest because of what he did in the World Cup final for England. But purely in terms of being the greatest striker my hunch - and it can be no more than that because I never saw him play live - is that it is Jimmy Greaves.

Quite apart from his ratio of 44 goals in 57 appearances for England just look up his astonishing scoring record at club level, listen to anyone who did see him play, and consider that barring injury earlier in the tournament he would probably have been playing at Wembley on his country's greatest footballing day in 1966.

When League of Ireland side Longford Town tweeted the scoreline in their Leinster Senior Cup quarter-final against Shamrock Rovers on Tuesday night, it caused Pat Flynn to panic...as it seemed the defender had "forgotten" about the game..

Despite the match having kicked-off, he seemed determined to make it to the ground to play and appeared to tweet his journey...

He even got into a Twitter exchange with Shamrock Rovers, joking that he had stopped for a bite to eat on the way.

He never made it to Longford, as they lost the tie 1-0.

But it looks like it was just an elaborate wind-up , externalby Flynn, who was reportedly injured for the game.

Calum Reeves: Without injury it would be Owen. He's is the only English person to win the Ballon d'Or in his generation...at the age of 21.

Ian:  If Rooney didn't play for Manchester United then the haters would be far less in numbers, jealousy is such a bad trait.

Mark Abbott:  Englands greatest attacker has to be William the conqueror - played one - scored one - veni, vidi, vici.

    Anglo-American Cup?published at 12:09

    Football

Here's an interesting one... The MLS is in talks with the Premier League over setting up an Anglo-American Cup that would involve the winners of the English top flight and the FA Cup.

MLS commissioner Don Garber believes popularity in football grows in the United States when the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool cross the Atlantic for pre-season tours.

Over the last two years all three clubs have participated in the International Champions Cup but Garber is hoping to create a more formal competition in which the most successful English teams compete - possibly every year.

"We have been talking to the Premier League," Garber said. "I would love to find a way that we could play our cup champion and our league champion against an FA Cup and league champion in a tournament and play it in New York City every year."

The Asian Football Confederation's president has condemned the crowd trouble which forced a World Cup qualifier between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia to be suspended three minutes before full-time.

The visiting Saudi Arabia team were leading 2-1 in the Group A Asian qualifier when play was stopped after fans launched flares and fireworks on to the pitch.

"This sort of behaviour is deplored by all those who seek to protect the best interests of football in Asia and help us in our aim to be the game's leading confederation," said AFC president Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa.

Fifa has yet to announce any sanctions following the incident.

Michael Johnson: A fit Michael Owen hands down. Would be on 60+ goals 150+caps and won England a major trophy if he'd never had injury problems.

Do we measure goals by their quantity or their weight? Geoff Hurst scored the most important goals in England's history and Gary Lineker has a golden boot to his name. Having said that, scoring 50 goals to break a record that has stood for nearly 50 years is something Mr Rooney can be rightly proud of.
