Jonathan Lupton: Lineker was something else. People say Maradona won the World Cup single handedly, well we'd be saying the same had England won Italia 90. The guy simply guaranteed goals, regardless of opposition. Rooney is a better all round player than Lineker, nobody can take his 50 goals away from him either, but Lineker was a better out-and-out striker in my opinion.

Frank Duckworth: Bobby Chalton. He scored all his goals against top teams, not like Rooney.

Dave Mason: Franny Jeffers. 1 goal, 1 game. Greatest ever England striker.

Been getting plenty of reaction to the question posed about whether Wayne Rooney is England's greatest striker - and one man getting plenty of mentions is the legendary Jimmy Greaves, who scored 44 goals in 57 games for his country.

A relative, Martin Greaves, has been in touch to make the former Chelsea, AC Milan, Spurs and West Ham United striker's case based on that outstanding record and it is a pretty compelling one.

Greaves's record is magnificent and today might be a day worth remembering that there was so much more to his England career than missing a World Cup final in 1966. He was a striker of true world class.
