There was some action in New York though, as Britain's most famous tennis brother Jamie Murray reached the final of the men's doubles as he and Australian partner John Peers beat Americans Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey 6-4 6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (9-7).

But there will not be British interest on both sides of the net, as Dom Inglot and Swedish partner Robert Lindstedt lost to Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut 7-5 6-2.

Flushing Meadows. Such an apt name.

The women's semi-finals at the US Open were postponed last night because of heavy rain.

That means Serena Williams will face Roberta Vinci after second seed Simona Halep meets Flavia Pennetta at 11am local time today.

Paris St-Germain, the cash cows of Europe (or should that be vache a lait?), have been told it will cost them £728m to take Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.

Steven Gerrard would have stayed at Liverpool - if he was given the right job.

And QPR's Charlie Austin says there was no truth in the rumours that he was linked with a summer move to Manchester United.

Any of it true? Who knows? It's your daily dose of gossip.
