What a tale two goalkeepers – and wildly-conflicting emotions – at Manchester United and Chelsea.
Against all expectations, David de Gea has delighted everyone associated with Old Trafford by signing a new four-year contract.
It is a glorious bonus for United and manager Louis van Gaal, who had pretty much written off De Gea as part of his plans. Now he can count on the services of one of world’s best goalkeepers.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are coming to terms with the loss of their keeper Thibaut Courtois for months after he sustained a knee injury in training.
Asmir Begovic, signed from Stoke City for £8m after the departure of Petr Cech to Arsenal, proved his quality even in defeat at Manchester City but there is no question this is a serious blow to Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
