    Sri Lanka legend Mahela Jayawardene can help improve England's record on the subcontinent in his role as consultant coach, says batsman Ian Bell.

    Jayawardene will join England's tour to the United Arab Emirates for the Test series against Pakistan next month.

    Bell, 33, described the appointment as "brilliant" and says he will "badger" the newly retired batsman for advice.

    Manchester United have released a statement on the latest concerning Luke Shaw.

    "Luke underwent surgery on his injury on Tuesday night and will remain in hospital in Eindhoven to continue his early recovery.

    "Manchester United are grateful for the excellent care he is receiving and would like to thank everyone who has sent messages of support.

    "A further update will be provided in due course."

    Surrey's Ansari, 23, hurt his bowling hand against Lancashire on day two of their County Championship match, hours after receiving a first Test call-up.

    He was taken to hospital and Surrey later confirmed the injury was an "open dislocation", adding that it would be assessed in the coming days.

    England begin their three-Test series with Pakistan in the UAE on 13 October.

    Hector Moreno, the PSV player who challenged Luke Shaw in the incident that saw him break his leg, says he feels "really sorry".

    “I just feel really bad because I was involved in the accident. I feel really sorry," said Moreno, who went on to score in the game.

    “I think not (that it was a foul). I think I played the ball, but in this kind of situation I don't care if it was a foul.

    “I feel bad for him, for his family. I don't know how bad it is. I had myself that situation like that during the World Cup and it's bad. I just hope he will be back as soon as possible.”
