QPR striker Charlie Austin believes staying with the club has cost him a chance of playing for England at the 2016 European Championships - but is determined to fire them to promotion as compensation.

The 26-year-old rejected the chance to leave Loftus Road over the summer despite QPR's relegation from the Premier League.

"I know the Euros are at the end of the season, but the likelihood now is that I'm not going to be involved in that squad," he told BBC Wiltshire.

Lewis Hamilton says he learned "diddly-squat" from Friday's rain-hit practice in Suzuka ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix

Hamilton completed only 14 laps in the two 90-minute sessions as persistent rain wreaked havoc with the day's schedule.

Red Bull's Daniil Kvyat ended the day at the top of the order ahead of the Mercedes duo of Nico Rosberg and Hamilton.

"It is irrelevant what we did today as it is going to be dry, but it is a shame for the fans because so many people have turned up today and they have been sitting in the rain and not seen many cars go round. It is boring for them."

In a statement, Klitschko confirms a tendon tear in his left calf has forced him to leave his training camp and seek medical treatment.

"I know that a lot of fans have already organized their trips to support me in Dusseldorf. I am so sorry that I am not able to fight on October 24," he said.

"I also apologise to my opponent, who has spent many weeks preparing for this fight. I will do my very best to recover as fast as possible.”

    Newcastle v Chelsea (17:30 BST)

    John Southall
BBC Radio Five Live football reporter

Strange news conference. Jose Mourinho was unwilling to speak about Diego Costa  because of recriminations that may come the manager's way, but was clearly angry that they haven't received the written explanation before the first game of the striker's ban.

Another week, another apparent dig at Arsene Wenger. When asked about Steve McClaren feeling the pressure, Mourinho claimed there's only one manager who is not under pressure and then launched on a lengthy attack on that unnamed manager. It doesn't take Poirot to work out his identity.

Jose's also believed he's on a mythical list that can't talk about referees before games.

Oh, and they're playing Newcastle on Saturday and have a fully-fit squad. Just another Friday at Cobham...

Dick Advocaat has reiterated how important it is that he gets Sunderland's defence organised.

The head coach told BBC Newcastle that “it is the manner we give the goals away” that is the problem, but he says he is reluctant to replace out of form left-back Patrick van Aanholt with right-sided Spurs loanee DeAndre Yedlin.

Advocaat says the seven or eight games following this weekend’s at Manchester United are critical.

Another little snippet from Spurs, where manager Mauricio Pochettino was repeatedly asked about Harry Kane's goalscoring record of just two in his last 14 league appearances.

"We must stop speaking about Harry Kane," he said. "We must let him do his job. The most important thing is I am very happy with his effort and the way he plays. I think he can improve his quality. This is a tough moment but the people around the club and in the changing room - we believe in him."
