Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge's return to action must be managed carefully to ensure it does not "break" him, says Reds manager Brendan Rodgers.

Sturridge, 26, scored twice in Saturday's 3-2 win over Aston Villa - his second appearance of the season since a hip injury suffered in April.

"We have seen from the game at the weekend he is still building his way towards full fitness," said Rodgers.

Sturridge's 24 goals in 2013-14 helped the Reds finish second in the league, but he missed six months of last season after suffering a thigh problem and having hip surgery.

The Nottinghamshire spin bowler was called up after an injury to Zaffar Ansari.

"I'm coming back into the system after two years out, working with new coaches like Mahela Jayawardene and Mark Ramprakash - it's all new for me and for them so it's going to be brilliant, " Patel said.

Captain Alastair Cook thinks Patel gives them another option with bat and ball.

"Samit's had a taste of international cricket and certainly he adds that spinning the ball away from the right hander and a bit of batting as well."

Shearer says coaching partly to blamepublished at 18:14

    Football

Former England captain Alan Shearer claims coaching standards are partly to blame for Premier League clubs failing in Europe.

Shearer, talking at the Sir Bobby Robson Celebrity Golf Day says reckons the amount of money now flowing through the Premier League has a part to play too.

"The more money the Premier League gets it seems the worse the teams get in Europe. Teams from Germany, Spain, Italy seem to be leaving our teams behind which is a great shame," he said.

"We're not producing as many players as we used to, young players are not getting the opportunity, coaching standards is another thing but the list is endless."

In a statement the FA said: "The matter was brought to the attention of the FA on 8 September and led to the appointment of an independent academic expert in Portuguese linguistics to analyse the footage of the incident which included the audio recording.

"After receiving the report from the expert, the FA is satisfied that the words used do not constitute discriminatory language under FA Rules. Furthermore, both the words used, as translated and analysed by the independent expert, and the video evidence, do not support the conclusion that the words were directed at any person in particular. Consequently, on the evidence available to it, the FA will take no further action in relation to this matter."
