    Bangladesh cricketerShahadat Hossainhas turned himself in toface chargesof torturing an 11-year-old housemaid.

    The fast bowler, 29, had been missing since 6 September when allegations were first made about him and his wife.

    The court has rejected the bail petition submitted by Hossain and has sent him to jail, a day after his wife was arrested by police.

    The country's cricket board has suspended him from all forms of the game until the charges are cleared.

    Swansea City managerGarry MonksaysLiverpool were wrongto sack his mentor Brendan Rodgers.

    The pair worked together at Swansea before Rodgers left to join the Reds in June 2012.

    "I can't believe that. It's a very, very harsh decision," said Monk.

    "I don't think he deserved that at all. He's a top manager and that's a big surprise to me. I was a bit in shock when I got told."

    Harry Redknapp, a manager who has been linked with more jobs in his time than the entire BBC Sportsdesk has had hot dinners, has been talking to Talksport about the Sunderland job.

    When asked if he had a close relationship with Black Cats chairman Ellis Short, Redknapp - report the Sunderland Echo, external - replied: “No, not really.I have been and played in a golf day up at Skibo Castle, which he owns, but I have never spoken to anyone about the job and no one has ever asked me about anything."

    He added: “I would (come back) if it was something worth doing. But I wouldn’t jump into something just for the sake of it.”

    After his superb win on board Golden Horn in Saturday's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp, Frankie Dettori has given up his rides at Windsor on Monday due to illness.

    The 44-year-old was due to have two rides at the track but his agent Ray Cochrane said: "Frankie won't be riding today as he's got an upset tummy."

    Etixx-Quick-Step have wasted no time in replacing the departed Mark Cavendish, agreeing a two-year contract with German rider Marcel Kittel.

    "This team has one of the best, well organized structures around its riders," said Kittel.

    "I am also happy that I have a few friends on this team already, including Tony Martin - one of my best friends in cycling."
