Allardyce criticises Wenger & Benitezpublished at 13:03

    Football

New Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce has accused his Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger of "arrogance".

"I enjoyed beating Arsenal more than anyone when I was in charge at Bolton. We'd really got to them and Arsene Wenger hated us," Allardyce wrote in his autobiography.

"He takes it all very personally and has an air of arrogance. He's not one for inviting you into his office for a drink after games.

And on former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez: "When we beat his Liverpool team he would complain, 'They don't play my type of football.' "What was that, then? Winning football? He didn't like me and he thought he was superior."

That's right, Younis Khan is now Pakistan's leading Test run-scorer. Javed Miandad's 30-year record of 8,832 runs is gone.

England won't feel too chuffed for him though - they've laboured in the field all day under a scorching hot sun and got little to show for their efforts.

Pakistan are currently 216-2, with Shoaib Malik unbeaten on 92.

Here's a little tea-time report from the first Test:

Ben Stokes struck on the stroke of tea to deny Pakistan's Mohammad Hafeez a century on a day where England have been punished for their mistakes.

Hafeez, who was dropped on seven by Ian Bell in the morning session, was pinned lbw by Stokes for 98, the right-hander failing with a review.

Hafeez shared a stand of 168 with Shoaib Malik, who was also given a let-off on 40 when caught by Joe Root off Stuart Broad, who was found to have over-stepped.

England, who lost the toss, took their first wicket in the third over of the match when James Anderson had opener Shan Masood bowled off his helmet.

    At tea, Pakistan are 173-2.

Manchester United's Memphis Depay and Robin van Persie have some making up to do today after getting involved in a confrontationduring a Netherlands training session.

Dutch boss Danny Blind confirmed the incident - which occurred before Saturday's 2-1 win over Kazakhstan - but played down its severity.

Quoted by www.telegraaf.nl, , external Blind said: "There are sometimes situations in training where players think different. Then you talk about it. That's what happened and then it's over."

Given the situation the Dutch find themselves in at the moment, probably not ideal for the manager.

With Turkey holding a two-point lead over Netherlands, the Dutch can only qualify if they beat the Czechs and Turkey lose.

If the Dutch win and Turkey draw, Fatih Terim's team will advance into next month's play-offs by virtue of their superior head-to-head record.

A 1-1 draw in Amsterdam was followed by a 3-0 win for the Turks in the return fixture, giving them the edge should the two teams finish level on points.

Got that? Good. Tonight should be interesting indeed.
