Aston Villa did not hold a crisis meeting behind manager Tim Sherwood's back after the side's poor start to the season.

Speculation about Sherwood's future increased , externalwhen owner Randy Lerner met club officials in the United States last week, with the Villa boss absent.

Sherwood chose not to attend as he wanted to work with his squad, who have four points from eight league games.

But the 46-year-old and the side's style of football are under scrutiny.

Villa travel to Chelsea on Saturday before a home game against Swansea.

Thursdays are always a busy day for the sports team here at BBC Radio Sheffield. Numerous press conferences to attend with the hope of some unique or interesting insight into the world of football management….but usually it is a lot of injury updates and many a cliche. Not today...

I asked Sheffield United manager Nigel Adkins about they can get the best out of their young striker Che Adams. As part of his answer, he came out with this...

Adkins: "What's the biggest room in your house?"

    Me: "Eh, the living room?"

    Adkins: "The room for improvement."

Gleneagles has been declared to run in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Saturday's Champions Day but is not certain to take part in the Ascot race.

The colt, winner of the English and Irish 2,000 Guineas, prefers fast ground and has been a late withdrawal from several races over the summer.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien says he will walk the Berkshire track on Friday evening.

If Gleneagles was to run, it would set up a fascinating clash with leading French contender Solow.
