Odom making 'miraculous' progress

Ex-NBA star Lamar Odom is back in Los Angeles after receiving treatment at a Las Vegas hospital, a week after being found unconscious at a Nevada brothel.

Odom will continue his recovery in Los Angeles and is making "miraculous" progress, even taking a few steps, according to a family statement.

Two of those home Arsenal defeats have come against tonight's Champions League opponents Bayern Munich.

In February 2014 the Gunners lost 2-0 and in February 2013 they slumped to a 3-1 defeat.

Bayern park the bus... badly

It has already been an eventful afternoon for some Bayern officials with the Telegraph reporting that the team bus crashed into a parked car.

The club are quoted as saying it was a 'minor' incident and that no-one was hurt.

Tuesday's fixtures

It is a big night for Arsenal and Chelsea as they meet Bayern Munich and Dynamo Kiev respectively in Champions League action.

The Gunners have lost their opening two matches, while Chelsea have won one, lost one.

Not many British footballers play in other countries… but 17-year-old England youth international Danny Collinge is loving life after making the move from MK Dons in England to VFB Stuttgart in Germany.

The ambitious centre-back - who is trying to break into the first team while also juggling daily studies at school - says he would love to star for the England national side one day.

"He could give Lingard a first Champions League start on Wednesday after the youngster impressed during the second half of the 3-0 win, while keeping Mata fresh for Sunday’s game at Old Trafford.

Falcons sign Argentina back

Newcastle Falcons have signed Argentina utility back Belisario Agulla after he ended a spell with French side Agen.

The 27-year-old, who is the brother of Bath winger Horacio, has 11 caps but was not selected for the World Cup.

"Belisario is a talented, fast and dynamic player," Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards said. 

Violent scenes at the Angus Clasico

In a list of the world's most combustible derby matches, the Angus Clasico between Arbroath and Montrose rarely ranks particularly highly. Until now.

The two clubs have been warned by Police Scotland after violence erupted both inside and outside Gayfield on Saturday, with flares being thrown and fights breaking out in the streets of Arbroath. Five people were arrested.

Arbroath won the League Two encounter 3-1.

Lambert 'desperate' to end drought

Striker Rickie Lambert says he is "desperate" to end his goal drought and help keep West Brom away from the wrong end of the Premier League table.

The 33-year-old England forward has yet to find the net for Albion since his £3m summer move from Liverpool.

"I know there's more to this role under (Tony) Pulis than just scoring goals. You get asked a lot more defensively than I've had in the past, but it's something you have to get used to and I'm trying to get as fit as I can," he told BBC WM.

Arsenal make Isco move?

Arsenal are poised to make a £33m move for Real Madrid ace Isco, according to reports in Spain. 

Spanish publication Fichajes says Arsene Wenger is keen to rival Chelsea for the 23-year-old's signature in January. 

Another Arsenal target seems less likely to sign, though. Midfielder William Carvalho is poised to agree a new deal with Sporting Lisbon, according to Goal.com.

Wigan and England forward John Bateman has signed a contract extension which will keep him at the club until 2017, with an option for a further year.

The contract allows Bateman to join an NRL side in 2019 in return for a fee.

The 22-year-old made 31 appearances this season, as Wigan lost in the Super League Grand Final to Leeds Rhinos.

Blackpool president Valeri Belokon says he remains interested in buying a controlling stake in the League One club.

The Latvian has a 20% stake in the Seasiders, but has not had talks with majority shareholder Owen Oyston since July.

He has had meetings with local businesspeople about forming an investment partnership and when asked by BBC North West Tonight if he still wanted to buy the club, he replied: "I'd love to."

It was this moment - Jack Butland charging out and diving into a studs-up challenge on Ayew- that was replayed on the big screens at the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea apologise for replays

Swansea City have apologised for the replay of the controversial incident involving Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland  on the Liberty Stadium big screens during last night’s 1-0 defeat.

Potters manager Mark Hughes complained about the replaying of the incident in which Butland challenged Andre Ayew outside the penalty area.

Replaying controversial incidents on the screens during the game contravenes Premier League rules.

Today a Swans  spokesman said the replay was "human error". The club have made a verbal apology, and will now put that in writing.

Pistorius 'home with family'

Oscar Pistorius is with members of his family at his uncle's multi-story mansion after being released from prison and moved to house arrest a day earlier than expected.

"Oscar is here, at home with the family,'' said spokeswoman Anneliese Burgess, addressing dozens of reporters outside Arnold Pistorius' luxurious home in an upmarket suburb of South Africa's capital Pretoria.

"The family is happy that Oscar is at home," she added.

Pistorius, the double-amputee runner who fatally shot girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013, has served a year of his five-year sentence for manslaughter.

Joubert treatment unfair - Cheika

Referee Craig Joubert has not had the best few days after awarding a controversial penalty that saw Scotland lose in the Rugby World Cup to Australia.

But Joubert has been backed by Australia head coach Michael Cheika, who says: "I genuinely feel for Craig Joubert. It's so unfair. No other referee has had this stuff put out there like that and he's a very good referee.

"I would have liked my mates to back me up a little more on the odd occasion, if you know what I mean. I feel for him and hope his fellow referees stand by him."

Aidy Ward told the Daily Mail: "Brendan Rodgers is a good coach, but as a manager I didn't like certain things about how he dealt with Raheem.

Jaddoua's incredible story

Poulter makes late switch to plans

Ian Poulter has made a 19-hour trip from his Florida home to play in the Hong Kong Open to keep his hopes of playing in next year's Ryder Cup alive.

Poulter, 39, recently dropped out of the top 50 in the world and therefore is not eligible to play in the WGC HSBC Champions event in Shanghai.

Fifa election goes ahead as planned

World football's governing body Fifa has confirmed it will hold the election for its next president at a special congress on 26 February.

The election will determine who will succeed Sepp Blatter, who has been president since 1998.

Blatter, 79, and vice-president Michel Platini, 60, have both been suspended for 90 days amid corruption allegations, which both men deny.

Platini is seeking the next presidency, as is Prince Ali bin al-Hussein.

Champions League winner Cisse retires

Former Liverpool, Sunderland and QPR striker Djibril Cisse has announced his retirement from football at the age of 34, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Cisse scored in Liverpool's penalty shootout victory against AC Milan to win the Champions League in 2005.

After announcing his retirement, Cisse broke down live on French television as he heard a tribute from Guy Roux, his former Auxerre coach.

Ashley Young will miss Manchester United's Champions League match at CSKA Moscow.

Young was absent from the 3-0 win over Everton on Saturday because of a calf injury and the winger did not take part in United's final training session ahead of Wednesday's match.

Paddy McNair, who suffered liver damage playing for Northern Ireland last week, also missed the session.

"It's the same amount of injuries so Luke Shaw, Paddy McNair and Ashley Young are not going with us," United manager Van Gaal told MUTV.

Mourinho was given a suspended one-match stadium ban and a £50,000 fine by the Football Association for implying officials were biased.

Eagles lands at Bury

Former Burnley and Bolton winger Chris Eagles has signed for League One side Bury until the end of the season.

Eagles had been without a club since being released at the end of a short-term contract with Charlton in May.

The 29-year-old former Manchester United trainee had recently been on trial with Coventry City.

"He joins a number of players we have given an opportunity to reignite their love of football," Bury boss David Flitcroft told the club website.

British javelin record holder Goldie Sayers is to work with top coach Dan Pfaff to try and get her to the 2016 Olympics fully fit.

Her London 2012 medal hopes were dashed by an elbow problem and she came 26th at this year's World Championships after knee surgery.

"I see him as the best person in the world to keep me healthy. He is a master of body alignment and making sure everything is moving in the right direction," said Sayers, who came fourth at the 2008 Olympics.

Roberto Martinez has confirmed Tom Cleverley will make his return from injury later on Tuesday when Everton's under 21 side play German side Schalke in the Premier League International Cup at Goodison Park. 

Cleverley has been out with ankle ligament damage sustained in the 1-1 draw at Tottenham on 29th August.

Also playing will be Steven Pienaar, who has only made one appearance in 2015 after struggling with various injuries. Bryan Oviedo, Mason Holgate, Tyias Browning and Goalkeeper Joel Robles will also be involved.

That's what Virender Sehwag has done, publishing a two page document on his twitter feed to explain the reasons behind his decision to hang up his bat.

Portrush Open a 'special occasion'

Darren Clarke, the 2011 Open champion, says the return of the Open to his home country of Northern Ireland will be a "very special occasion".

The tournament will be played at Royal Portrush in 2019.

"The global impact and financial benefits to Northern Ireland are immeasurable," Clarke said. "To have the biggest and best tournament in the world in Northern Ireland is a proud moment for us all."

On the big screen

Swansea must wait to see if any action will be taken over them showing big-screen replays of an incident involving Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland.

Butland escaped punishment from ref Robert Madley for his 17th-minute challenge on Swansea striker Andre Ayew - but the incident was replayed three times from different angles on the Liberty Stadium big screen and provoked an angry reaction from the home supporters.

League rules state big screens inside grounds "must not be used to show action replays of negative or controversial incidents".

"If there is something in a referee's report, we will write to the club concerned, but we will not comment on a particular incident," said a Premier League spokesperson.

'Landmark day for Portrush'

The Open 2019 will be the biggest sporting event ever staged in Northern Ireland. Although it's been the best kept secret in golf, this is still a landmark day for Royal Portrush as the date for the Open return is officially confirmed.

The course redevelopment is well underway, including the building of two new holes. And the Stormont Executive has made a multi-million pound investment to secure the Open, which will come to Northern Ireland three times in approximately 30 years.

Royal Portrush Golf Club will be confirmed shortly (there's a news conference at 10:00 BST) as the venue for the 2019 Open Championship.

The organisers of the event, the Royal & Ancient, will be joined by Northern Ireland's 2011 Open champion Darren Clarke for the announcement.

It was revealed in June 2014 that the golf major would return to the Portrush course for the first time since 1951.

The R&A is also expected to confirm that two further Opens will take place at Portrush over the next 40 years.

Banned by his own school

Poor old Aussie tennis star Nick Kyrgioshas been caught up in another scandal ... his old school - Radford College in Canberra - have taken him off its Hall of Fame list.

"He's had a temporary departure from the hall [of fame], he's actually on detention in the director of sport's office at the moment and we're keeping him there until his behaviour improves - which we're very confident that will happen given that he was a Radford student," school principal Fiona Godfrey.

Kyrgios has been handed a $25,000 fine and a suspended 28-day ban by the Association of Tennis Professionals after his recent on-court behaviour.

Shaikh Salman, the most powerful man in Asian football, says "senior" figures in the game have told him to run for the Fifa presidency.

In a letter to members of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) executive committee, the 49-year-old Bahraini said he is not yet a candidate.

But he added he had been urged to stand "by a growing number of senior football administrators, Fifa members and personalities of public life".

The election takes place in February.

South African Olympic and Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been released under house arrest nearly one year after he was jailed for killing his girlfriend, prison officials say.

He is expected to spend the remainder of a five-year prison sentence at his uncle's home in Pretoria.

He shot Reeva Steenkamp through a locked bathroom door in 2013 but said he thought she was an intruder.

Ms Steenkamp's relatives say they think Pistorius is "getting off lightly".

World Rugby has announced that Joubert made a mistake in awarding the pen.

Scotland led 34-32 at Twickenham when Jon Welsh was ruled deliberately offside for playing the ball after a knock-on by a team-mate

The governing body said that, because Australia's Nick Phipps touched the ball, "the appropriate decision should have been a scrum to Australia for the original knock-on".

Scotland lost 35-34 after Bernard Foley kicked the penalty.

Stoke have won consecutive Premier League away games for the first time since December 2011. It's not looking good for the Swans though - they've only won two of their last 11 league fixtures.
