It was shown on the big screen from three different angles, causing the home crowd to react by jeering the officials, who took no action after the incident.

Premier League rules state big screens inside grounds "must not be used to show action replays of negative or controversial incidents".

Swansea City have apologised for the replay of the controversial incident involving Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland  on the Liberty Stadium big screens during last night’s 1-0 defeat.

Potters manager Mark Hughes complained about the replaying of the incident in which Butland challenged Andre Ayew outside the penalty area.

Replaying controversial incidents on the screens during the game contravenes Premier League rules.

Today a Swans  spokesman said the replay was "human error". The club have made a verbal apology, and will now put that in writing.

But Joubert has been backed by Australia head coach Michael Cheika, who says: "I genuinely feel for Craig Joubert. It's so unfair. No other referee has had this stuff put out there like that and he's a very good referee.

"I would have liked my mates to back me up a little more on the odd occasion, if you know what I mean. I feel for him and hope his fellow referees stand by him."

Raheem Sterling should still be a Liverpool player, according to his agent.

Aidy Ward told the Daily Mail, external: "Brendan Rodgers is a good coach, but as a manager I didn't like certain things about how he dealt with Raheem.

"Raheem could've stayed, he should be at Liverpool. In December I spoke to Liverpool and said we'll sign a contract if there is a buy-out clause - those clauses are now common practice. They said no to that.

"Then there were remarks. In press conferences, Brendan told everyone Raheem would sign - why do that?

"Right now he probably should be a Liverpool player, but he's not and he's in a great place at City."

I pick the team... or leave - Evanspublished at 13:52

    Football

New Leeds United boss Steve Evans has warned that he will pick the team - or leave.

Evans replaces Uwe Rosler as the side's boss with them 18th in the Championship only three points above bottom-placed Bolton and his former club Rotherham in 23rd.

"The day I don't pick the team is the day I'm not manager of Leeds United," says Evans.

"We're not going to get into relegation trouble. It's not a thought. Being 18th is not acceptable, this club has to climb the table."

"We must improve [our home form] but we think about one game and then the rest. We play a difficult team and we hope we win.
