'Leeds should be in the Premier League'published at 13:23

Football - Steve Evans news conference

New Leeds United boss Steve Evans takes his place in front of the cameras, but Massimo Cellino, the man who has appointed him, is not present alongside him after being banned from running the club by the Football League last night.

"It is overwhelming, I didn't think an I Phone could take 840 messages," says Evans. "I'm honoured, humbled and it is a massive opportunity. I will give it everything I have got. My focus is the playing squad.

"Mr Cellino is certainly passionate. What was meant to be a couple of hours talk on Sunday was nine hours. This club should be in the league above this one.

"You get longevity if you win football matches. The brief is to get football matches won and I will give every part of me to do that."

Ian Poulter has made a 19-hour trip from his Florida home to play in the Hong Kong Open to keep his hopes of playing in next year's Ryder Cup alive.

Poulter, 39, recently dropped out of the top 50 in the world and therefore is not eligible to play in the WGC HSBC Champions event in Shanghai.

If he had not played in Hong Kong then he would not have been able to fulfil the minimum of 13 events, the total he needs to remain a European Tour member.

Wales should fear no team at the 2016 European Championship finals in France next summer, says all-time leading goal scorer Ian Rush.

Chris Coleman's team are likely to face a tough draw as they will be one of the lowest-seeded teams.

But former striker Rush believes the biggest nations will not want to face a Welsh side which lost only once in qualifying.

"They won't want Wales in their group," Rush told BBC Wales' Sport Wales. "I'm not saying we are going to win it but the opposition won't like to play Wales."

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has blamed a lack of English language skills after accusing referees of being "afraid" to give his side penalties.

Mourinho was given a suspended one-match stadium ban and a £50,000 fine by the Football Association for implying officials were biased.

The Portuguese has described the fine as a "disgrace" and appealed.

A hearing dismissed his mitigation and decided the 52-year-old's English is "too sophisticated".
