More from UK Athletics chairman Ed Warner who has called for Russia to be banned from international competition and stripped of hosting next year's IAAF World Juniors in Kazan in the wake of the Wada report on doping allegations.

"The IAAF is meeting later this week to consider suspending Russia and my strong advice would be that you have got to do that," he said.

"If you suspend the Russian athletics federation you then have to remove the world junior championships - cancel them and take them elsewhere.

"The worst thing would be for Russia to turn up at the world indoor championships in Oregon in March or to host the juniors and we find out that nothing has changed."

Meanwhile, an athlete at the heart of the doping and corruption scandal engulfing Russian athletics says that punishment should be meted out to officials, and not competitors.

Disgraced Liliya Shobukhova hit out at a call from an independent World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) commission to suspend Russia's athletics federation from all competition.

"I just don't understand this recommendation by WADA," the Russian daily sports Express quotes Shobukhova as saying.

"The athletes are not connected to this at all! How is it possible to deprive young athletes, who are not to blame, of the right to compete at the Olympic Games?"

Shobukhova was excluded for life from all the world's major marathons because of doping, but had a separate doping ban cut in August after agreeing to cooperate with the WADA probe.
