He may not be the most popular cricketer amongst England fans, but David Warner is certainly in the form of his life at the moment.  Here are just some of the records that he broke during his unbeaten double-hundred against New Zealand...

    • Most runs scored by an opening batsman in the world in a day's play, beating 222 by Mark Taylor versus Pakistan in 1998.
    • Second-highest score at the Waca, behind Matthew Hayden's 380 against Zimbabwe in 2003.
    • First time an Australia opener has made two scores of 150 or more in a series since Bill Lawry against West Indies in 1968.
    • Only Don Bradman (48), Matthew Hayden (77) and Neil Harvey (80) have taken fewer innings than Warner (84) to reach 4,000 Test runs.
    • Warner has passed 50 at least once in 18 of his past 23 Tests.

England manager Roy Hodgson has been accused of being harsh on Everton's young midfield man Ross Barkley - particularly with public criticism after a pre-World Cup friendly against Eduador in Miami in 2014.

Barkley was England's man of the match in their final two qualifiers against Estonia and Lithuania and there was nothing but love from Hodgson in his pre-match briefing here in Alicante.

Hodgson said: "My opinion hasn't changed since we brought him into the squad – and it feels like an eternity ago, certainly well over two years ago. He is a bright young talent.

"We have seen him improve on a weekly and monthly basis. Every time he has come to us we think he is a bit better.

"I feel like the future is incredibly bright for a player like Ross Barkley and it is up to him, as he has said so many times himself, to keep working, to keep developing his game and improving and making sure that whenever the team is announced I cannot possibly leave him out.”
