'Players should be ashamed'published at 09:52

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Chair of the Chelsea supporters group Trizia Fiorellino: "The players have let Jose Mourinho down, how is that professional in any way? Mourinho has a way about him, everywhere he has been, he has been successful. He has had a hold on all the players. What has gone wrong with these players? They won the Premier League last season.

"I don't even see the Eva Carneiro incident as being relevant. The 70 minutes against Leicester was the worst I have ever seen, the players were ignoring his instructions, they should be ashamed of themselves.

"We saw John Terry, Cesc Fabregas and Branislav Ivanovic dropped, it just was not working. You then had a nucleus of influential players, that was his what brought him down."

'Jose knew it was the end'published at 09:48 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2015

    Chris Sutton
Former Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 live

"There is no disputing Jose Mourinho is not a genius, but the bottom line is that he has lost the players. There has been a rift with Eden Hazard and end of the day, it is about results.

"Mourinho knew on Monday night after the Leicester loss that it was the end. This is an intelligent guy, when you talk about betrayal, you know it's the end.

"We are not in a position about who Mourinho has been picking, more about his judgement of that."

Hebbar: Cannot blame players; they never said anything against manager with media. Jose blamed every senior player again and again.

Jason Wickens: You have to ask what has happened in Mourinho's head since they won the league - something has led to the implode.

PSP: Mourinho is so good that he can actually save Aston Villa from getting relegated this season.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe: Beating Chelsea was a great day for this club, not so good for theirs. That's the reality of the game.

"We're not that close where I would send a message to him.

"He won the league last year, so you can't say that it didn't work out for him. He just went through a disappointing spell of results. To say it didn't work out wouldn't be fair.

"In modern day football, it is the hardest time to manage. One result can swing opinions. You have to be ready for that. It is very difficult, so you need a very level-headed chairman, owner and support from above."

Nicola Jade: Still gutted..It would've been nice to see players be held responsible for once..Chelsea have really alienated the fans here.

Shaun the sheep: Jose has not looked himself all season, not sure why everyone's so shocked, something had to change!

'Have a crack at Pep'published at 09:30 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2015

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Bosnich: "A lot of my close friends such as Harry Kewell and Mark Viduka have worked with Guus Hiddink and rate him very highly, up there with Terry Venables who also managed Australia. He has had a tough time recently but would be fine from now until the end of the season for Chelsea.

"You only have two or three managers who are better than Jose Mourinho and they will have a crack at Pep Guardiola - he has indicated he will leave Bayern Munich."

Will the next man be as good?published at 09:27 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2015

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 live

"Jose Mourinho is someone who guarantees trophies. He changed Chelsea into a world class club and a special one. Short term, I understand why the decision was made. If you don't get results, you are in danger.

"Will the next man be as good as Mourinho? Probably not."

'Worst defence of title'published at 09:23 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2015

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Bosnich:"If you keep losing at a football club, regardless of what you have achieved in the past, you leave them with no option. The manager is responsible for the results.

"Jose Mourinho only lifted the trophy in May, it is the worst defence of the Premier League title I can remember.

"You are probably looking at Manchester United as the next possibility. Real Madrid would always be interested in him. It would be fantastic for the league if he did returned."

"And he is also ready to listen to offers from the FA should Roy Hodgson leave the England job following Euro 2016.

"Mourinho will be in the frame to succeed under-fire Louis van Gaal if United sack the Dutchman.

"But he will have to convince Old Trafford top brass that the chaos of his final few months as Chelsea manager will not be repeated."

Daily Mirror's Alison Phillips:, external "Mourinho became a huge figure in British football, adored by fans and loyally loved by his players because of his absolute self- belief and strong, unwavering leadership.

"But it was that self-belief, arrogance and refusal to compromise which was ultimately his undoing.

"Because, when circumstances – and luck – changed, those characteristics which marked him out as special also revealed him to be fatally flawed."

Matthew Dunn of the Daily Express:, external "It was no way for the club's greatest manager to leave a club he had built and then rebuilt into the finest in the land. Three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, three League Cups and a Community Shield should be enough for any man to leave with his head held high.

"He was neither a Special One nor a Happy One. Instead, he was a Confused One."

The Telegraph's chief sports writer Paul Hayward:, external "Even after last season’s title win there was never a convincing sense that Mourinho admired this Chelsea side the way he did the Blues of 2005 or his Champions League winning Inter Milan team.

"A rupture over the summer – and probably over the vindictive treatment of Dr Eva Carneiro– exposed the essential weakness of the relationship between Mourinho and this group. And as we know, deterioration, at Chelsea, never happens at a stately pace."

Anthony M: I heard Mourinho's off to manage Yeovil, the Blues will eventually end up in the same league as the Glovers anyway

Sylvester Okorie: Mourinho should take up the Portugal National team job while Chelsea should employ Brendan Rogers.

To thicken the plot a little further, former Chelsea striker Mateja Kezman claimed Hiddink told him on Thursday that he had been given the Chelsea job.

"I do not know if it is officially confirmed, whether the club has announced it, but Guus told me earlier," Kezman is quoted as saying.

"I think this decision is correct and Guus Hiddink is a great choice."
