Warren Gatland has been described as the "leading contender" to coach the British and Irish Lions in New Zealand next year.

Wales head coach Gatland was in charge of the Lions' Test series-winning tour of Australia in 2013 and the New Zealander is widely expected to retain that post for a 10-game New Zealand trip, which includes three Tests against the world champion All Blacks.

His only competition would appear to be Ireland boss and fellow New Zealander Joe Schmidt, who oversaw two successive Six Nations title triumphs.

Southampton v Watford (Wed, 19:45 GMT)

After all that, the Southampton boss is finally asked about tomorrow's game.

"Watford have had a very good season," he says.

"They are a team playing with very good organisation.

"They have the belief and the spirit and the confidence to try and win every match, and they have two strikers up front who are full of confidence."

And with that, he's off. Should be an intriguing game tomorrow, Saints are desperate for a win but Watford are playing so well ... one to keep an eye on.

Koeman is asked about defender Steven Caulker, whose loan spell at Southampton from QPR was cancelled in order for him to join Liverpool earlier today.

"He didn’t play a lot and I’m not the type of coach to complain and to stop his opportunity to play for Liverpool," says Koeman.

"Am I disappointed Steven didn’t make more of an impact during his six months? No, he had some injuries.

"We won’t replace him because everybody is looking for centre backs and we need players at the moment who make the team better, and not just to have numbers. We use young ones for numbers."

Hughes is also asked about Marko Arnautovic. The Stoke boss says talks over a new contract are "ongoing".

"There are negotiations to be done. We are hoping that they will be done quickly and that will be a benefit to Marko too.

"It can help him to have the security of a new contract but he's in a good place at the moment. This isn't affecting him adversely in my opinion."

One thing all Southampton fans want to know... will new faces be arriving at the St Mary's this month? Well fans, don't get too excited...

"We are no closer to bringing anyone in," says the boss. "If we bring in a player it will be one, not more. We are not a club that is worried and will bring in more players than we need."

Koeman says there will be no one leaving, then adds "I don't expect".

He's asked about under 21s midfielder Jake Hesketh (above), rumoured to be a target for Man United.

"I read something in the press about that," says Koeman, who has the marvelous quality of remaining unfazed by whatever he is asked. "We've received no formal bid. I don’t know any more."

Ronald Koeman: "It has been difficult for me as a manager in the last few weeks because you like to win.

"The Premier league is a tough competition and sometimes difficult to explain. We create more chances than our opponents but lose the game – and it is sometimes difficult to explain why.
