Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was in typically effervescent form after his side reached the League Cup final with a penalty-shootout win over Stoke.

"It was great, the atmosphere was special," he said. "It was a good game for my side against a difficult side to play.

"They changed their style today. It was keeper Jack Butland to Peter Crouch so it was difficult to defend. We had a few problems, but they didn't have too many opportunities.

"Their goal was double offside but, in the end, we had luck in the penalty shootout. Over the whole 120 minutes, the players, crowd and Liverpool deserved it."

Crystal Palace have signed former Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor on a free transfer.

The 31-year-old, who has scored 94 Premier League goals, joins a Palace side who have not won in their last six league games.

"I can't wait to join the squad and start playing again," said Adebayor.

Spending lots and lots of money is something of a theme on Europe's sports pages this morning.

Spanish paper Marca leads with the intriguing suggestion that Cristiano Ronaldo actually cost Real Madrid more than Gareth Bale, and is the rightful holder of the world transfer record.

The paper says the final bill for Ronaldo came to 104.7 million euros (£80m), while Bale's eventual fee was a mere 99.7 million euros (£76m).

There'll be squabbling over that one in the Bernabeu changing-room, mark my words...

Meanwhile in France, an interesting tale on the front page of sports paper L'Equipe, which reports that Paris Saint Germain are set to dip into a 300 million euro (£230m) transfer kitty in order to pursue their ambition of becoming "the best club in Europe".

More Chelsea rumblings on the back of The Times. The paper reports that Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is firmly in the club's sights for next season.

The exclusion of highly-rated youngsters Maro Itoje and Elliott Daly from the England Six Nations squad to take on Scotland also makes the back page.
