Here's a bit more on the news that Jessica Ennis-Hill will miss the indoor athletics season with an Achilles injury.

“Training over the winter has been great – but it in the last two weeks my right Achilles has been sore," she says.

"I am waiting on guidance from my medical team after having a scan but with just two weeks to my first race my coach and I have made the decision to skip the indoors and keep focus on the Rio Olympics.

"My training schedule and the appropriate care is being developed now with the outdoor season as the focus. My priority has always been Rio and I don’t want to take any risks in the short-term.”

"Heather Watson has beaten Sofia Shapatava 6-2 6-0 at the Fed Cup in Israel to give Britain an unassailable 2-0 lead over Georgia and secure a place in Saturday’s promotion play-off.

"Judy Murray’s team look likely to face Belgium, who are led by world number 43 Alison van Uytvanck and would start slight favourites on rankings.

"The prize on offer is another play-off in April, but this time potentially a first home tie for Britain’s women since 1993, as they try to rejoin the World Group."

Is it time to get ugly?published at 10:31 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2016

    Football

Everton are 11th going into the game at Stoke on Saturday, with the Potters a place and a point ahead of the Toffees.

Roberto Martinez has confirmed Kevin Mirallas should be back for the game but that defender John Stones will be out. Keeper Tim Howard is also likely to be out.

On the back of his Jason Derulo concert moves, Martinez is asked whether it time to Get Ugly like the lyrics to the pop star's latest song.

"It is not a time to 'get ugly', it is a time to be very, very good," says Martinez.

    Football

I'm not sure Everton boss Roberto Martinez can top his revelation over his moves at the Jason Derulo concert but we'll tell you what else he's been saying anyway.

His side play Stoke on Saturday and the club's new £13.5m signing in Oumar Niasse could figure.

"We are still waiting for paperwork on Oumar Niasse's visa, but we hope to have him available," says Martinez.

He adds: "Romelu Lukaku has shown improvement with his back injury. We hope he can join training today."

There's some footage doing the rounds on social media of Everton manager Roberto Martinez busting some moves at last night's Jason Derulo concert in Manchester.

On a 1-10 scale of coolness, he's a 6. He's not an embarrassing Dad, but we've seen better.

    We're sure Derulo has too.

Anyway, Martinez has been a good sport this morning: confirming the video was him and adding that he has some even better moves.

We'd need to see them before he's a 7 though.

What's it like to play in China?published at 10:15 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2016

    Football

Paul Gascoigne, Didier Drogba and Nicola Anelka have all experienced football in China, which has a population of 1.3 billion.

So has former Nottingham Forest and West Ham striker Marlon Harewood, who spoke to the BBC's World Service about his time there.

"China has a lot of wealth and they love their football," he said. "They want to make it even bigger and bring bigger names in.

"There's not many countries that can compete with the top names in Europe, but they are trying to compete.

"By bringing in players like Martinez and others, they are trying to bring the standard to that level. It's not far off.

"The money counts, but at the same time it's an absolute experience.

"The experience I had was amazing. I would definitely recommend it, even if they just try it for an experience. I know they would love it."

Sale Sharks fly-half Danny Cipriani says he will decide his future at the club in the coming weeks.

Cipriani signed a two-year deal last year but is understood to have a break clause this season.

The ex-Wasps and Melbourne Rebels number 10 is a target for Top 14 side Toulon as well as Premiership clubs.

"The decision on my future is something I'm going to have to make within the next week or so," he told BBC Radio Manchester's Rugby Union Extra.

Has Rosicky played his last game for Arsenal?published at 10:00 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2016

    Football

Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky has been ruled out for up to three months because of injury.

The 35-year-old, whose contract expires in the summer, hurt his thigh in his first appearance for seven months against Burnley on Saturday.

Asked if he has played his last game for the club, Wenger says: "I hope not.

"His injury is quite a serious one, a muscular one. The good news we have is that apparently he will not need surgery. It is a partical rupture of his tendon.

"How long does it take? Two to three months, we don't know.

"We are all shocked. We have to be patient and hope that it is not his last game."

'I'm not obsessed by Spurs'published at 09:47 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2016

So Tottenham are above Arsenal in the league on goal difference but can they keep it up?

When asked about Spurs, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger added: "I'm not obsessed by that. My obsession is that we play well and beat everyone."

Wenger's side play Bournemouth on Sunday and the Frenchman believes the Cherries will beat the drop this season.

"I always said that from when I saw them play early in the season," says Wenger. "They have enough substance in their play to stay up."

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger's side have dropped to fourth in the Premier League and have been overtaken by rivals Tottenham.

"I didn't really look at the table," says the Frenchman.

"We are in a position where we need to come back and win games. We need to look at facts - we haven't won for four games so, overall, we need to come back to winning before looking at results of others."

    So what's the problem?

Wenger says: "We didn't score. I believe, overall, we have not to be alarmist because the quality of our performances was there in every game even if we didn't get the results we wanted."

China is a worry - Wengerpublished at 09:34 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2016

    Football

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is chatting to the media and he believes China's signing of some of Europe's top talent is a worry.

"Yes, of course," he says when asked if the Premier League should worry about the impact the Chinese Super League is having.

"China looks to have the financial power to move the whole league of Europe to China.

"Will they sustain their desire to do it? Let's remember Japan started to do it a few years ago but slowed down.

"I don''t know how deep the desire in China is. If it is a very strong political desire we should worry."

Just to remind you of the news earlier, Chinese football clubs broke their transfer record for the third time in 10 days after Jiangsu Suning spent £38.4m on Alex Teixeira.

Wilson and Gradel updatepublished at 09:25 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2016

If you've just joined us, you've already missed a Premier League manager's news conference. Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has got his media duties out of the way early doors.

His side play Arsenal on Sunday and he's given an injury update long-term absentees in striker Callum Wilson and winger Max Gradel.

"Callum Wilson and Max Gradel are pretty much in line with their scheduled returns," he says. "I wouldn't expect Max back any time soon, not within the next couple of weeks anyway, maybe in March.

"I think both be back before the end of the season. From our perspective, they are like new signings if we can get them back to fitness and good form. I’m excited by the possibilities should they return this season."
