Manchester City have never progressed further than this in the Champions League but their fans will feel that this time the club have given themselves their best chance yet. By winning their group, Manchester City have avoided one of the big guns at this stage.

Dynamo Kiev are managed by former Tottenham striker Sergei Rebrov, who has had an impressive start to his coaching career. He won the domestic double last year and is currently joint top of the Ukrainian league alongside Shakhtar Donetsk.

You can listen to live commentary of the game with Conor and Mark Lawrenson tonight on BBC Radio 5 live and on the BBC Sport website.

It's not the Uefa press conference backdrop Louis van Gaal had in mind in the summer. But Manchester United are not only in the Europa League, they will be embarrassingly out of it tomorrow night unless they can overturn a first-leg deficit against Danish outfit FC Midtjylland.

For someone who began their managerial career winning the Champions League with Ajax, it would be a chastening experience.

Van Gaal and United midfielder Juan Mata are due to address the media at 15:30 GMT.
