    Baseball

Colorado Rockies player Jose Reyes has become the first player to be suspended under new Major League Baseball rules brought in to address domestic violence issues in the sport.

The four-time All-Star player who earns $22m (£15.7m) a year, has been placed on paid leave while he faces criminal proceedings.

The 32-year-old, who was arrested at a Hawaii resort in October following an argument with his wife, has pleaded not guilty to an abuse charge.

His trial is due to start on 4 April - the opening day of the new MLB season, when the Rockies play at Arizona.

Mourinho not sure on Man Utd rolepublished at 12:07 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2016

    Football

Jose Mourinho says he does not know about becoming the next Manchester United manager, but is hoping to be back in football this summer.

Earlier this month, BBC Sport reported that the Red Devils had held talks with representatives of the Portuguese boss.

When asked if he will replace Louis van Gaal, the ex-Chelsea manager said: "That's the one million dollar question.

"Nobody knows and I am the first one not to know. I read so many different things. One day says yes and one day says no. One other day says I go to China, another to Italy, I go to Milan and people say I'm going back to Inter."

Dynamo Kiev v Manchester City (Wed, 19:45 GMT)

    Conor McNamara
BBC Radio 5 live commentator in Kiev

The weather is relatively warm for Kiev at this time of year - but the key word is relative - flurries of sleet and snow are forecast for kick-off time this evening.

Manuel Pellegrini is very much sticking to his guns here in Ukraine that he had "no other option" than to sacrifice the FA Cup in order ensure his players were fit enough for this game in Kiev.

It's a big week for City and there's no excuse now for the returning first choice players who were rested.

If City have had too many games lately, then arguably Dynamo Kiev have not had enough. The winter break in Ukraine means Dynamo's last competitive game was 11 weeks ago.  They have had two separate warm weather training camps in Spain and have played plenty of friendlies, but it is a long absence from competitive action.

You can listen to live commentary of the game with Conor and Mark Lawrenson tonight on BBC Radio 5 live and on the BBC Sport website.

McNamara for Hull KR?published at 11:41 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2016

    BBC Radio Humberside

Hull KR coach Chris Chester was sacked today, just three games into the season.

BBC Radio Humberside’s Simon Clark says former England coach Steve McNamara could be in line to take over at the Robins.

"Chris Chester was at pains last week to say that his side's game against Wakefield was not a must-win game. In the end it turned out it was and the defeat by his hometown club cost him his job.

"Chester's squad had suffered injury blows even before a ball was kicked in anger. Captain Terry Campese and Kevin Larroyer have yet to play this season and James Donaldson suffered a serious wrist injury in the Robins' second game which is likely to keep him out for 10 weeks.

"Attention now turns to Chester's replacement with former England coach Steve McNamara among those strongly tipped for the role."

Former England international and Leigh boss Paul Rowley has also been linked to the Super League side.

  7. Vanessa-Mae awarded damagespublished at 11:35 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2016

Violinist Vanessa-Mae has been awarded damages following a defamation claim against the International Ski Federation [FIS].

FIS banned Vanessa-Mae from competing for four years in 2014, stating she had 'contrived to manipulate' race results in order to qualify for the Sochi Winter Olympics.

A hearing at the Court of Arbitration for Sport [CAS] in March last year cleared her of any wrongdoing.

FIS has now admitted their statements were "unjustified" and "unreservedly withdraws them".

The British citizen competed under her father's surname, Vanakorn, and for his country of birth - Thailand - in Sochi, finishing 67th and last in the Giant Slalom.

Antonio Valencia and Marcos Rojo both trained for Manchester United ahead of their Europa League last 32 tie with Danish side Midtjylland - but there was no sign of David de Gea or Chris Smalling.

Valencia (broken foot) and Rojo (dislocated shoulder) have both been sidelined with long-term injury.

Manager Louis van Gaal said he hoped De Gea would be fit for tomorrow's second leg but that seems unlikely. No reason was given for Smalling's absence.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Will Keane, who were injured in Monday's FA Cup win at Shrewsbury, were also missing.

Transparent voting boothspublished at 11:12 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2016

    Football

Lawyers for Fifa presidential candidate Prince Ali bin al-Hussein revealed yesterday they have made an official request for Friday's election to be suspended.

Ali, 40, is unhappy with voting arrangements and has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).

The Jordanian wants transparent voting booths to ensure the election is fair and open, but world football's election commission rejected the request.

Cas says it will rule on his appeal today.

And he has now tweeted a picture of one of the transparent booths he wants. (Afterwards it can probably be turned into a shower stall.)

Penalty controversy denies Valenciapublished at 10:55 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2016

    Football

There was huge controversy in a Champions League Under-19 game between Valencia and Chelsea yesterday.

The game went to a shootout, which Chelsea won. The only problem is one of Valencia's penalties crossed the line before rebounding out off a stanchion - but the referee thought it had hit the post and did not allow it.

Valencia boss Gary Neville described it as "scandalous" and Chelsea said the ball "clearly crossed the line".

The Valencia players and staff urged the Swiss referee to consult with the television replay at Chelsea's Cobham training ground, but it is believed he refused.

Local newspaper Super Deporte called it a swindle...

The Sun reports, external that West Ham's FA Cup run means they could be forced to abandon their plans for their Upton Park farewell on Saturday 7 May.

The Hammers are due to play their last home match at their current ground against Swansea on the penultimate weekend of the Premier League season before moving into the Olympic Stadium next season.
