    The World Boxing Association has stripped Lucas Browne of his WBA heavyweight title and banned him for six months after his “B” sample confirmed he had tested positive for Clenbuterol. 

    Browne became the first Australian heavyweight champion in March when he stopped Ruslan Chagaev in Russia to extend his perfect record to 24 wins.

    The WBA have given Chagaev 120 days to negotiate a title fight with Fres Oquendo.

    Cardiff City have held talks with 31-year-old first team coach James Rowberry about the possibility of becoming Russell Slade's successor.

    Rowberry joined the club's academy in 2013, having previously spent four years working alongside the first team and development side at Newport County.

    Slade was removed as manager at the end of the season with the club now looking to appoint a head coach.

    The first offspring of legendary racing champion Frankel makes his racecourse debut today.

    Cunco, trained by John Gosden, runs in the 14:00 BST maiden stakes at Newbury.

    Frankel was retired for a breeding career in October 2012 after winning all 14 of his races. He commands a £125,000 a time fee at the Newmarket stud where he performs stallion duties.

    Cunco is the first son or daughter to race, with other two-year-olds sired by Frankel expected to make the track over the summer.

    World number one Jason Day equalled the course record to take a two-shot first-round lead at the Players Championship.

    The Australian hit every green in regulation in a nine-under-par 63 at Sawgrass to move ahead of a group of five players that includes England's Justin Rose and Ireland's Shane Lowry.

    Lowry picked up seven shots on the back nine to come home in a tournament record 29 strokes.

    World number two and three Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy are both level par.

    Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez could be the "perfect" candidate to replace Roberto Martinez at Everton despite his previous stint at Liverpool, according to former England defender Danny Mills.

    Benitez's future is uncertain following Newcastle's relegation to the Championship this week.

    Frank de Boer, who quit Ajax this week, has been installed as the bookmakers' favourite to take over at Goodison Park but appointing the Dutchman would be "a risk" according to former England winger Chris Waddle.
