We are still waiting for an official statement from Hull City on Steve Bruce's decision to resign as manager.

No word yet on who their new manager might be, or whether they will name a caretaker boss. Roy Keane is the bookmakers' favourite for the full-time job, randomly.

As the Shanghai crowd catches its breath, Dortmund take their chance to make a host of changes - among them is Emre Mor, the 18-year-old Turkey international who recently arrived from FC Nordsjaelland and impressed in spells for his national side at Euro 2016.

    Man Utd 1-3 Dortmund

Well, all of a sudden it's end-to-end stuff.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is released against his former club, taking the ball on his right into the top of the penalty area and firing low towards Roman Weidenfeller, but the Dortmund keeper collects with ease.

Dortmund go straight down the other end with Ousmane Dembele and France's young player of the year last season twists and turns past Marcos Rojo before rifling a right-footed shot inside the near post to put the German side 3-0 up.

United then get another opportunity almost immediately and it's Juan Mata who opts to pass rather than shoot when one-on-one with Weidenfeller to give Mkhitaryan a tap in against his old employers.

More on Bruce's Hull exitpublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 22 July 2016

    Football

Steve Bruce, 55, had reportedly wanted assurances about his role with Hull City, who put takeover talks on hold until September.

The Tigers only have 13 fit players because of injuries.

Bruce had an interview for the England job, although Allardyce has been chosen for that. His decision to quit is entirely unrelated, BBC Sport has learned.

He had been at the KC Stadium for four years, leading them to two promotions to the Premier League (with a relegation in between) and the FA Cup final.

The former Manchester United defender has managed Sheffield United, Huddersfield, Wigan (twice), Crystal Palace, Birmingham and Sunderland.

Messi could return for Argentina - Suarezpublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 22 July 2016

    Football

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez thinks club-mate Lionel Messi will reconsider his decision to quit international football.

Messi, 29, retired from Argentina duty after missing a penalty in the Copa America final shootout defeat by Chile.

He has never won a major international trophy, losing four finals (one World Cup and three Copas).

Suarez, who plays for Argentina's rivals Uruguay, said: “As a friend and an admirer of football I’d like to see him stay with Argentina’s national team.

"His love for country is not up for discussion, but you also have to understand him after losing the final. I think he’ll reconsider.”

Southend United boss Phil Brown would be interested in the England assistant manager's job if he was offered the role.

Brown was assistant to Allardyce, who is set to be named as Roy Hodgson's successor, at Bolton and Blackpool.

But he rejected the chance to be his number two when Allardyce was appointed by Sunderland last October.

"When the national assistant role comes around it's a different ball game all together," said the 57-year-old.

Dortmund are showboating now. Ousmane Dembele nutmegs Antonio Valencia and Shinji Kagawa looks to complete a fancy one-two with a backheel into the 19-year-old's stride, but Valencia recovers to cut it out.

At the other end, Ander Herrera has a chance to set Memphis Depay away with a low ball into space but the Spaniard overhits his pass and Depay is unable to collect.

And that brings to an end the first half in Shanghai.

Another chance for Dortmund as Ousmane Dembele cuts inside on the right flank onto his left foot and picks out Marcel Schmelzer with a long pass to the back post.

The 28-year-old guides a header back into the path of the oncoming Aubameyang, who fires a yard or so wide with a left-footed volley.

Aubameyang then rolls off the back of Phil Jones moments later to collect a chipped Sebastian Rode pass, but goalkeeper Sam Johnstone does well to get a hand on the forward's shot.
