Dortmund double leadpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 22 July 2016

    Man Utd 0-2 Dortmund

Goalscorer Gonzalo Castro dribbles down the right and loops a cross into the box, which Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang swings a one-legged overhead kick at.

It strikes Antonio Valencia on the arm - penalty, the referee doesn't hesitate to point to the spot.

Aubameyang, Dortmund's top scorer last season, steps up and side-foots his effort straight down the middle to double the German side's lead.

Drinks breakpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 22 July 2016

    Man Utd 0-1 Dortmund

Talking of the heat, it is time for a drinks break on the half-hour mark in Shanghai. That also gives Jesse Lingard a chance to pop his boot back on.

The United midfielder attempted to waltz his way through a huddle of Dortmund defenders moments earlier, but he was the one penalised after losing the ball and pulling back a yellow shirt.

The heat in Shanghai is immense.

I would expect players to lose a few kilograms darting around the pitch.

What I didn't expect were the number of empty seats.

The stadium is no more than three quarters full, although maybe that is no surprise given £85 was being asked for one a couple of hours before kick-off.

Castro opens scoringpublished at 13:31 British Summer Time 22 July 2016

    Man Utd 0-1 Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund go 1-0 up in China but United, and Sam Johnstone in particular, make a right mess of defending a free kick.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang strikes a deadball towards the young (well 23) United keeper, it swerves in the air and Johnstone pushes it out to the feet of Ousmane Dembele before saving the forward's follow up.

It then falls to Gonzalo Castro at the third attempt and the Dortmund man manages to scramble a shot past the United stopper to open the scoring.

    Man Utd 0-0 Dortmund

Pre-season is the time to iron out that summer rustiness, and for Antonio Valencia that looks like remembering how to take a throw-in. The right back is penalised for leaving his leg flailing in the air behind him.

It's Manchester United who nearly catch Dortmund a little short at the back though as Memphis Depay breaks down the right side of the penalty box with support to his left, but he can't find Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the space in the middle.

    Man Utd 0-0 Dortmund

Former United man Shinji Kagawa is finding pockets of space between the United midfielder and back four, he looks to release Dortmund's new signing Ousmane Dembele but the youngster is out-sprinted by right back Antonio Valencia and ends up shoving the Ecuadorian to the ground.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the next to try to beat United's high defensive line, but after taking a neat touch into his path the forward is flagged offside.

Depay deniedpublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 22 July 2016

We're off, a little later than anticipated, and it's Dortmund, dressed in all yellow, who get the ball rolling.

United are wearing their blue away kit, and nearly get an early break through Memphis Depay.

A slip in the Dortmund defence presents Depay, who appears to be playing as United's focus point in attack, an opportunity only for Sokratis to recover at the last minute and stop the Dutch forward galloping free.

I have not watched many games from this vantage point.

Those I have reinforce just how good professional footballers are.

They - and the ball - move around so quickly, it is difficult to keep up.

Worth bearing that in mind when fans are complaining about a misplaced pass from their seat in Row 20.

It looks a lot easier from there.

Radcliffe: Caster Semenya Rio gold 'won't be sport'published at 12:31 British Summer Time 22 July 2016

    Athletics

Marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe fears Caster Semenya will dominate the women's 800m field in Rio to the extent "it will no longer be sport".

The 25-year-old South African has higher than normal testosterone levels and was asked to take a gender verification test to prove she was a woman having won World Championship gold back in 2009.

But she recently ran a personal best time to underline her status as favourite for 800m Olympic gold.

Radcliffe also fears young, female athletes with hyperandrogenism could be "manipulated" by countries seeking major success on the Olympic stage.

'This is the moment I was waiting for until the end'published at 12:21 British Summer Time 22 July 2016

    Football

Alex Manninger on his move to Liverpool: "Honestly, it was a surprise.

"After these years, in Italy and the last four years in Germany, I hadn’t given up, I hadn’t said ‘that’s it’, I still waited for the phone call.

"When Liverpool was on the phone, it was a great pleasure for me to take it on because it gives me what I was looking for. This is the moment I was waiting for until the end.

"I’ve still got something left, for sure, but obviously it’s probably not the time for me to push for the next three or four years to get a place in the goal. Because time says it’s not possible to play 50 games a year.

"But if I’m called up, I’m definitely there for games, I will play. And I’ll definitely be in the changing room every game, giving my input; I hope, even if it’s only a couple of per cent, it will do the rest."
