It's lunch on day three of the third Test between England and Pakistan at Edgbaston.

England are being made to struggle as the tourists have turned a 40-run deficit into a 39 run first innings lead with five wickets still intact.

England's limited success this morning has yielded just two wickets for the cost of 79 runs before the interval.

The waves crashed in but the goals didn't.

Last night, the beach here in Barra - an up and coming area in Rio - was populated by locals taking in Brazil's 0-0 draw with South Africa.

There were a few cries of frustration audible but surely these people can take some comfort from the fact they get to watch the game next to a stunning beach? It beats being on the sofa or a cold Tuesday night at Stoke (sorry Potters fans).

Some reaction to the Champions League play-off draw, which has paired Manchester City with 1986 European Cup winners Steaua Bucharest.

Laurențiu Reghecampf, coach of the Romanian side, is not too happy with the match-up. He told Uefa.com: "I wanted any team but City. We will have a positive approach and let’s see what will be. We have a chance and for sure our players will have extra motivation."

Manchester City sporting director Txiki Begiristain added: "It's going to be a difficult tie because Steaua are on the up again in Europe and have a lot of talent."

Smalling returns to trainingpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    Football

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Chris Smalling was training this morning, raising the possibility he could be available for Manchester United’s Community Shield encounter with Leicester at Wembley on Sunday.

Smalling is yet to play in pre-season after suffering what manager Jose Mourinho described as “a recurrence of a small injury”.

The England defender was part of the main group for the open section of this morning’s session, although whether Mourinho is thinking of starting him against Leicester is open to question.

Smalling is suspended for the opening Premier League game of the season at Bournemouth on 14 August following his red card in the FA Cup final win over Crystal Palace.

Mourinho is due to hold a pre-match press conference at 13:30BST.

FA Cup tie moved for scarecrow festivalpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    Football

Just 76 days after Manchester United won the FA Cup, the 2016-17 competition gets under way this weekend with the extra preliminary round.

The 2016-17 competition begins with 183 extra preliminary round ties - the first of 13 hurdles before the final on 27 May, 2017.

Hinckley AFC, who play in the Leicestershire village of Heather, have brought forward their home tie with Heanor Town because it clashes with one of the area's biggest annual events - the Heather Scarecrow Festival.

Their facilities are being used for the festival - which attracts thousands of visitors every year - and the match will now take place on Friday (19:45 BST) as opposed to Saturday.

"This is our third season at Heather but it's the first time we have had to move a game because of the scarecrow festival," said Steve Jelfs, chairman of Hinckley AFC, who play in the 10th-tier Midland Football League Division One.
