    Stokes-less England 'without a wheel'published at 10:49 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    Cricket

England without Ben Stokes are like a "car without a wheel", according to former captain Michael Vaughan.

The hosts took only three wickets on the second day of the third Test at Edgbaston as Pakistan reached 257-3, trailing by 40.

All-rounder Stokes is missing the final two matches of the series with a calf injury sustained in the second Test.

"They they can't move in the same direction or at the same speed," Vaughan told BBC Test Match Special.

"England miss Ben Stokes hugely - he's an in-your-face player."

He has previously spent time on loan at Mansfield and the 2014-15 season in League One with Walsall.

"He plays forward and he wants to create something. I just felt that we needed that in the squad," boss Gary Bowyer told the club website., external

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has described his side’s Champions League play-off tie as being the most important matches on the season.

Certainly it would be a major embarrassment for City and their new manager if they fail to advance to the group stage.

Of the five sides City could get, they have only played probably the toughest, having encountered Italian side AS Roma in the group stage in 2014-15, drawing at the Etihad Stadium, then securing a 2-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico thanks to goals from Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta to reach the last 16.

City have never played Steaua Bucharest, Monaco or Rostov, but at least they have played teams from Romania, France and Russia in their European history.

A meeting with Young Boys would represent their first encounter with a team from Switzerland.

    The draw is at 11:00BST.

West Ham fans will have an epic trek on their hands if they get Qabala of Azerbaijan. They are based 135 miles from Baku, which in itself is a five-and-a-half hour flight from London Heathrow.

  18. Ban on historical dopers 'unenforceable'published at 09:52 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    Olympics

A ban on Russian athletes with previous doping offences competing at Rio 2016 is "unenforceable" says the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has banned Russians with prior doping offences, regardless of whether they have served their punishments.

It means 271 Russians out of an initial squad of 389 will be in Rio.

But the Cas ruling could open the way for banned athletes to appeal against the IOC's action.

  19. Russia the "cleanest team" at Olympicspublished at 09:47 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    Olympics

Russia will have 271 athletes eligible to compete at the Rio Games, says the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

This is more than two-thirds of their original entry list of 389 athletes, despite the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) recommending a blanket ban after a state-sponsored doping scandal.

Russia's Olympic Committee president Alexander Zhukov said his country will have "the cleanest team" at the Games.

"The Russian team may have experienced the toughest checks of the Olympics, because they had to go through multiple tests and checked," said Zhukov.

"On top of all that, Russian athletes are going through additional testing which is taking place at the Olympic Village.

"So, as of now, the Russian team is probably the cleanest in Rio."
