Jurgen Klopp has blocked Galatasaray's bid to sign midfielder Lucas from Liverpool, according to the Daily Mirror., external
The Turkish side felt they had a deal in place to sign the Reds' longest serving player but Klopp was worried it would leave them short.
Gala sporting director Levent Nazifoglu said: "We are no longer pursuing Lucas Leiva. We will continue efforts to sign alternative names instead."
One player leaving Everton could be striker Oumar Niasse.
The 26-year-old cost the club £13.5m in January but has not even been given a squad number by Ronald Koeman.
The Liverpool Echo, external claim Everton have offered him to Crystal Palace on loan.
Ashley Williams is Ronald Koeman's third summer purchase after Senegal midfielder Idrissa Gueye and goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.
The Toffees, following their £49m sale of John Stones to Manchester City yesterday, are also in talks to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Yannick Bolasie and Sunderland defender Lamine Kone.
More from Ashley Williams on joining Ronald Koeman at Everton: "Everton is a great club with an unbelievable manager - a world legend in football - and I believe the club is going in the right direction. This is something I wanted to be a part of.
“I look forward to seeing what the manager’s plans are for me and the team. He’s been one of the greatest centre-halves to ever play the game, so I look forward to learning from him and seeing what he can teach me.
“What Everton fans can expect of me is an honest player, a hard-working player who will try to do as good as I can for my team-mates and the club. I’m not always perfect but I always have the right intentions and I try to leave it all out there on the pitch."
Everton manager Ronald Koeman: “We wanted to bring in a strong player in the central defence position, a player who knows the Premier League and Ashley fits the bill for us very well.“He is an experienced defender and the kind of player we need in the team. He is a leader. He showed this at Swansea and he has shown it for his country and he is looking forward to his new challenge here at Everton.”
Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins: “We are disappointed to lose Ashley. It is definitely not something we wanted to happen.
“But having turned down Everton’s initial offer, Ashley expressed his desire for a new challenge at this time of his career.
"Taking into account the excellent service Ashley has given this football club over the last eight years, including as club captain, we reluctantly agreed to his request to join Everton after they made an improved offer.
“It goes without saying that we wish him the very best with his new challenge and thank him for his services."
New Everton defender Ashley Williams: “I’ve had eight great years at Swansea and, for me, the new challenge was something I felt I needed.
“Obviously, Swansea was very memorable for me and I would like to thank every single fan, my former and current team-mates and all of the Swansea family for their unconditional support and friendship.
"I wish everyone at Swansea all the best for the future and they will always hold a special place in my heart.”
So Everton have confirmed the signing of Swansea captain Ashley Williams.
The 31-year-old Wales centre-back has officially moved for an undisclosed fee but the BBC understands that it is £12m.
He signs a three-year contract with the Toffees, who moved quickly to replace John Stones.
Barcelona boss Luis Enrique thinks his current squad is the best he has had so far as he enters his third season in charge.
The Spanish champions have signed midfielders Andre Gomes and Denis Suarez and defenders Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne this summer.

Which new Premier League boss will have the best impact?

Burnley boss Sean Dyche was speaking to BBC Sport about negativity around British managers.
"There seems to be a grandeur to foreign managers taking a hard line approach to fitness and changing things like players’ diets.
"Yet if a British manager went and changed the same things they’d just think ‘oh, right’ and there’s no positivity to that.
"People think I’m talking about myself, I’m not.
"If I was laying out a hard line approach and running players round the pitch people would say that I’m a dinosaur, but if a foreign manager did that they would view it with a positive perception saying ‘he’s getting them super fit to take on the challenges of the Premier League’."
West Ham midfielder Mark Noble is happy to see Sam Allardyce become England boss, perhaps unsurprisingly.
The 29-year-old, who played under Allardyce for the Hammers, has never won a cap.
"I feel buoyed because he’s the right man for the job," said Noble. "His man management and tactical skills are second to none.
"You’ve got to be a big character to handle top players and Sam’s just got that way about him."
