  2. Jol resigns after death threatspublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 19 August 2016

Former Tottenham and Fulham boss Martin Jol has resigned as manager of Al Ahly after receiving death threats from the Egyptian club's fans.

Dutchman Jol argued with supporters last Friday after his team failed to reach the semi-finals of the African Champions League.

Since then he also received threats on social media, and supporters tried to attack the team during training on Tuesday.

Al Ahly said in a statement: "Jol has told us he will not be able to complete his contract [which had another season and a half to run] for personal reasons.

"We have accepted that and ended the contract with him."

  3. Pereyra and Kaboul set for Watfordpublished at 11:02 British Summer Time 19 August 2016

Watford have agreed to pay a club record fee to sign Juventus midfielder Roberto Pereyra.

Pereyra, 25, is due to have a medical today along with Younes Kaboul, whose move from Sunderland was agreed yesterday.

Watford officials are not saying how much the club are paying for Pereyra but it is in excess of the £12.5m they spent on Isaac Success from Granada earlier this summer.

Before joining Juventus in 2014, Pereyra, who has 10 full caps for Argentina and was part of their 2015 Copa America squad, played for Udinese, the Italian club owned by the Pozzo family, who also own Watford.

  4. Bolivia call up 93 playerspublished at 10:50

This is quite bizarre. Unless there's a logical reason behind this someone can help me with?

Bolivia have called up 93 players for their World Cup qualifier against Peru on 1 September. OK, it's a preliminary squad - and looks like it includes 'development' players - but still...

Just the 27 defenders and seven goalkeepers. Talk about parking the bus...

Why not head over here, external and see if you've made the cut? You'd be gutted if you didn't make that.

  5. Mike Phelan news conferencepublished at 10:41

Swansea v Hull (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Hull City

Here's another line from Hull City caretaker manger Mike Phelan - who sounds pretty frustrated by the transfer market. Hull are yet to make a single signing since winning promotion as Championship play-off winners.

"I mentioned last week that it could have been a big week this week but not a lot has happened," Phelan says.

"We have been working hard but getting them over the line has been difficult. Everything gets tighter and tighter and the days are ticking away. We have just got to do our job, which is play football matches."

  8. Welbeck could be back for Christmaspublished at 10:21

    Arsenal

Good news Arsenal fans - Danny Welbeck could return from injury a few months earlier than was expected. Here's manager Arsene Wenger explaining how the serious knee injury suffered by the 25-year-old striker at the end of last season has been reassessed.

"He has an inflammation of his knee and they had to go in again to see if it is healing well or not," Wenger said.

"He had a second check, not a procedure, a check with a camera inside. If the healing was not good, he would have been out until April. The news was excellent and he will be back around Christmas."

Brown retires with Scotland manager Gordon Strachan set to name his squad for the World Cup qualifier against Malta on 4 September.

"I owe a debt to every Scotland manager before him who selected me – right back to Walter Smith handing me my senior debut and the national youth coaches along the way," Brown said.

“Gordon has been one of the most influential people in my career and I did not want to let him or my country down but over the summer I had a lot of thinking to do.

"It’s no secret that I’ve suffered some injuries in my career and once you get over 30 you have to protect your body more.

"Gordon understands this completely and I would hope the Scotland supporters understand my position, too. The personal disappointment of not reaching a major championship finals with my country was heightened this summer but we have a great squad of players and I am certain that we can really make a go of this campaign and qualify for Russia."
