And are Stoke also looking to sign a centre-back?

"We will look at it," Hughes adds. "There are a couple of areas of the team that we feel we need to bring players in to help the rest of the guys.

"It is nobody specific at the moment because we have a number of targets in mind, who we are hopeful of getting over the line. It is something that may well go to the last throws of the window."

"We can't think about Manchester City," says Hughes, who managed City from 2008-2009. "We need to think about ourselves and be at the best we can be.

"There is a feel-good factor with the arrival of Pep [Guardiola] as manager, he's been successful everywhere he's been. I've only had one of my teams go up against him, it was a pre-season friendly which we won, so hopefully that can carry on.

"It's going to be a tough game, but we have a decent home record against them. We need to be at our best."

  15. Good morning!published at 08:00

    And welcome to Sportsday.

It was another storming afternoon and evening for Great Britain's Olympic athletes in Rio - and don't even get me started on Usain Bolt...

Handily we've got everything you need to about the Games, right over here.

This is the place for your football fix - and there's plenty coming your way. We'll have team news and transfer updates from 10 Premier League news conferences, plus build-up to this evening's fixture between Manchester United and Southampton (20:00 BST) - with Paul Pogba set to play.

So let's get stuck in, starting with the papers.

    TimesImage source, Times

The Times is all about the Brownlee brothers. While I continue to struggle with the cryptic crossword, Alistair and Jonny took Olympic gold and silver in the men's triathlon yesterday.

And it is soon to be Sir Mo?

    TelegraphImage source, Telegraph

The Telegraph's non-Olympic sport pull-out features quotes from Arsene Wenger's press conference yesterday morning on - you guessed it - the transfer market.

And there's an intriguing little tale bubbling away at the top there. Is that really how Joe Allen found out he was leaving Liverpool?, external

    GuardianImage source, Guardian

And the Brownlees are all over the Guardian back page, too - head over here for the inside story on their remarkable performance.

    The SunImage source, The Sun

But in the Sun, Jose Mourinho takes centre stage. Unfortunate angle that one. He's been calling for Manchester United fans to show more support in tonight's game at Old Trafford, but stops short of a blanket ban on prawn sandwiches.
