    Rio Paralympics 2016

New Paralympic champion Will Bayley admits he was a little overcome with emotion after finally securing a first title at his third Games.

"My coach said two years ago that if I won I would have to have a good celebration, but I got to match point and then thought 'oh no, I haven't planned anything!," he says with a smile.

"When I won, 'climb on the table' just came into my head - I don't know where from and once I was up there I was kinda worried it might break.

"It may look silly, but it was just pure emotion."

Canoeing will be making its Games debut on Wednesday at the Lagoa but GB team member Emma Wiggs's family are getting into the Paralympic spirit at the athletics stadium today.

Wiggs, who was left paralysed after contracting a virus when she was 18, is a four-time world champion in canoe after competing at London 2012 in sitting volleyball.

Her wife Gemma, mum Annie and the rest of the family group have already been to watch track cycling and sitting volleyball in Rio and have tickets for wheelchair rugby and swimming, as well as the two days of canoe action.

"We couldn't be prouder of Emma and to share this journey over the past few years with her, we are the fortunate ones," Gemma and Annie told me.

"To see her change and develop as an athlete has been inspiring for us."

Davies's tough road to shot goldpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 12 September 2016

Aled Davies wanted the chance to defend his London 2012 F42 discus title in Rio but the International Paralympic Committee, in their wisdom, decided to drop the event from the programme.

It meant he had to focus more on the shot over the last four years and after changing coach and losing three stone, he now has a second Paralympic gold.

Davies had triumphed in the shot at the last three major international championships but this was the one he wanted after bronze in London.

His series of throws was consistently top-class and he celebrated by punching the air in delight.

  6. GOLD - Davies wins F42 shot putpublished at 15:59

    Rio Paralympics

He's done it! A Paralympic record of 15.97m gives Welshman Aled Davies gold in the F42 shot put.

The 25-year-old improves on his bronze at London 2012, breaking the Paralympic record in the first, second and third rounds to leave him over a metre and a half in front of the rest of the field.

Iran's Sajad Mohammadian claimed silver with a throw of 14.31m, while South African Tyrone Pillay picked up bronze.

Davies also won gold in the F42 discus four years ago in London, an event which has been dropped from the Rio schedule.

    Rio Paralympics 2016

Aled Davies has improved on that earlier effort in the shot put with a Paralympic record attempt of 15.97 metres.

So far, so good for the 25-year-old Welshman, who tops the standings in the F42 category.

  8. 'Sunderland supporters continue to endure frustration'published at 15:52 British Summer Time 12 September 2016

    Sunderland v Everton (20:00 BST)

    Ian Dennis
    BBC Sport senior football reporter

I have no doubt that, in time, David Moyes will break the cycle of despondency on Wearside but, for now, the Sunderland supporters continue to endure a familiar feeling of frustration.

The month of August could feel like a bleak midwinter when you've endured 17 winless matches but September is hardly a bundle of joy either…they are without a win since 2012.

I've seen Everton under Ronald Koeman and I believe they will soon be challenging where they were under Moyes on a consistent basis.

One thing is for sure - there will not be a repeat of the tame Everton surrender in May that secured Sunderland's Premier League survival.

  9. Paralympic record for Simmondspublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 12 September 2016

    Rio Paralympics 2016

Ellie Simmonds has set a new Paralympic record in her women's 200m SM6 individual medley heat, sending her through to the final where she will look to defend her title from London.

"I was really shocked by that. I'm enjoying it so much, I love racing here," said Simmonds, who clocked three minutes 02.4 seconds.

"I was worrying because the results were taking ages to come through. It's going to be a very tough race tonight, but I'm really looking forward to it.

"I want to give it everything I've got.

"It's been great cheering on my team-mates, we're doing really well."

    Bayley

Will Bayley admits his success is still sinking in, but he has a smile from ear to ear after reversing his result from London 2012 where he was the beaten finallist.

"I've achieved the impossible," he says.

"People don't know how hard it's been after being reclassified and put into a harder category.

"After London 2012 I genuinely didn't think I would get another opportunity but I tried so hard and this is the realisation of my life dream."

Sunderland manager David Moyes could hand debuts to goalkeeper Mika Domingues and Manchester City loannee Jason Denayer against former club Everton tonight, while Jan Kirchhoff, Jordan Pickford and John O'Shea are all fit.

And the Scot believes that following a similar model to the Merseyside club will serve Sunderland well in the coming transfer windows.

"I see something similar between the clubs, but I don't want to be banging the drum every day saying 'Everton this, Everton that'," said Moyes.

"I'm only using it as an example to say if we can follow that route, we will not be far away. That will come from getting the recruitment right, and getting an understanding of the players we need to bring to the club.

"I'm hoping we can get that over the coming windows."

Bayley wins table tennis goldpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 12 September 2016

    Rio Paralympics 2016

Emotional doesn't even begin to describe Will Bayley right now. He full on broke down in his interview with Channel 4, before going off for a cuddle from Johnny Vegas. (Yes, Johnny Vegas).

"Words don’t do it justice, I don’t know if its sunk in yet," he said.

"It’s like a game of chess, I couldn't get emotional until the end but I’ve done it. I never thought it was possible for me. Great Britain were laughed at in table tennis but now we’ve shown the world what we can do.

"I was written off before I came here, I wasn’t even supposed to get out of my group, I’ve been reclassified up – this is impossible. I’ve achieved the impossible."

What an interview. That could be the Paralympics' Lutalo Muhammad moment - except it's gold for Britain, not silver.

"YEEESSSSSSS," screams GB's Will Bayley after he climbs onto the table to celebrate after securing Paralympic gold!

What a performance by the Londoner! Not only overcoming an incredibly strong opponent in Israel Pereira Stroh, but also handling being vilified by the crowd.

They love to build up rivalries and the partisan home support understandably wanted nothing more than success for their man - but they would be denied.

Bayley lost to Pereira Stroh in the group phase but he learn from that experience and would not be denied.

It's his third career Paralympic medal - he now has bronze, silver and finally gold!

Bayley beats Brazilian Israel Pereira Stroh 3-1 in games, 11-9 5-11 11-9 11-4.

The 28-year-old jumped out on the table to celebrate, and then jumped off to hug the official who was showing him the yellow card!

The picture is very good - Everton boss Koemanpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 12 September 2016

    Sunderland v Everton (20:00 BST)

Unbeaten Everton could go third in the Premier League tonight if they win at Sunderland tonight.

In fact, a four-goal victory would take them second behind Manchester City but very much a wait and see on that one.

Blues' boss Ronald Koeman is feeling chipper after starting the league season with two wins and a draw, despite missing out on signing Moussa Sissoko on transfer deadline day.

"Overall [the transfer window was] positive, because we signed some good players," the Dutchman said.

"Of course, we had a disappointment on the last day, but that happens in football, because you don't get always what you like to have. But still, without that player, the picture is very good. I am happy with the squad and the signings."

    Bayley

The morning caffeine hit is finally having an impact and the home supporters have raised the decibels here in Rio Centro.

It's having a big impact on both players.

Will Bayley began the brighter - taking the opening set - but fired up by the support Israel Pereira Stroh turned things around to level.

Just as it looked as though the momentum had swung the way of be Brazilian back comes Bayley!

He leads 2-1 knowing victory in the next set will give him a first career Paralympic gold medal! But we're not there just yet...
