Juan Mata will hope Northampton's minor blip extends to two games though, and how Manchester United will relish a win after what has been a testing couple of weeks.

The 28-year-old Spaniard says in his blog: "A win doesn't last too long, and it happens the same way with a defeat: you have the chance to make it up soon afterwards.

"Two more games this week will give us the opportunity to show on the pitch our pride and skills. There's no time for mourning. We must react."

Finally, 270 days and 31 games later, Northampton Town lost a league match.

The run started after a defeat by Portsmouth on 19 December and finally ended with a 3-1 win for Chesterfield on Saturday.

But what a game for Rob Page and his players to bounce back for as Wednesday sees Manchester United come to Sixfields in the EFL Cup.

Page will address the local and national press at 13:00 BST no doubt encouraged by United's 3-1 loss to Watford yesterday - a third successive defeat.

England duo Claire Rafferty and Rebecca Spencer have been forced to pull out of the squad that will face Belgium on Tuesday due to injury.

Head coach Mark Sampson has called up Reading goalkeeper Mary Earps to replace Spencer, after she trained with the Next Gen squad at St George’s Park last week.

A draw against Belgium will be enough for England to secure Group 7 top spot in their Euro 2017 qualifying campaign, after beating Estonia 5-0 at Meadow Lane on Thursday.

The match, which will be played at the Den Dreef stadium in Leuven, is live on the BBC Red Button and BBC Sport website (18:00 BST kick-off).

This is how it feels to be a Stoke fan at the moment

One point from five games and bottom of the Premier League table - it's not looking too clever at Stoke City.

The Potters, who have finished ninth for the past three seasons, were beaten 4-1 by Crystal Palace on Sunday.

They have conceded four goals in three of their league games.

"We have ambitions this season and if this run continues any longer we won't be able to achieve them," manager Mark Hughes said.

If they carry on like this, their ambition might simply be to stay up.

However, Stoke failed to win any of their first six games last season but then won five of their next seven.
