Plymouth Argyle are set to buy back their Home Park ground from the city council in a £1.7m deal.
The ground was sold to the council in 2011 as part of a deal that saw current owner James Brent take the League Two club out of administration.
However, the agreement had a provision to buy it back after five years.
"We've got the club back on a firm footing, and this is really about how we take the club forward in a very sustainable fashion," Brent said.

In 2008 Newcastle United confirmed Joe Kinnear as their interim manager until the end of October after Kevin Keegan's departure.

It's been overshadowed by the death of Arnold Palmer but Rory McIlroy is looking good going into this week's Ryder Cup after winning a play-off to seal victory in the Tour Championship and take the $10m (£7.7m) FedEx Cup prize.
The Northern Irishman, 27, rolled in a birdie from 15 feet to edge out Ryan Moore on the fourth play-off hole at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta and finish top in the PGA Tour's season-long points race.
There was some good news for Moore (below) though - he was named as the final wildcard pick for the United States Ryder Cup team.
US captain Davis Love III named Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar and JB Holmes as his other wildcard choices on 12 September.
Europe will be defending the cup at Hazeltine National in Minnesota from Friday.
Boxing
World heavyweight champion Tyson Fury will never fight again, leading British promoter Eddie Hearn has said.
Fury, 28, has withdrawn from his rematch with Wladimir Klitschko, scheduled for 29 October, because of reported mental health issues., external
The Englishman, who has not fought since beating Klitschko last November, postponed the original rematch in June.
"Fury will be stripped of his titles and, after a legal battle, he'll say: 'No more, I'm done'," said Hearn.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has not been affected by being dropped and is still the "main man" at Old Trafford, says defender Chris Smalling.
Rooney, 30, was left out of Jose Mourinho's starting line-up for the 4-1 win over Leicester on Saturday.
Asked if Rooney appeared down when he was told, Smalling replied: "No."
The England centre-back added: "He was the same before the game when we were all getting ready. He is often one of the most vocal and he was the same."
