"It could be a deadline day of ‘goodbyes’ rather than ‘hellos’ at Dean Court although the lack of any further defensive incomings could be concerning given another centre-half should be Eddie Howe’s top priority.

"Rhoys Wiggins and Lewis Grabban, both strange signings in the last window, look likely departures with out-of-favour winger Max Gradel also interesting Hull City amongst others. 

"Unlikely as it seems, I still wouldn’t rule out a loan move for Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere or Danny Ings from Liverpool to fill the void created by any outgoings and as we know, on deadline day, expect the unexpected."

Will West Bromwich Albion be the busiest club on transfer deadline day?

It was only on Sunday that Baggies boss Tony Pulis said he was "desperately keen to get five players in."

On Monday he signed Belgium midfielder Nacer Chadli from Premier League rivals Tottenham on a four-year deal for a fee reported to be £13m, external.

"We need these players, that bit of quality, a lit bit more mobility and we're working hard to get them in," Pulis told BBC Sport.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman insists Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy is not for sale but rumours persist that he will leave Goodison Park if they get an offer of around £20m - or can perhaps be used in another deal, for Moussa Sissoko perhaps.

McCarthy's stock has fallen after a fine first season at Everton as his place as Gareth Barry's midfield partner has been taken by summer signing from Aston Villa Idrissa Gueye, who has made an outstanding start.

He will not want to spend time on the sidelines - and he appears expendable if Everton need leverage in the market.

Barnsley have completed the signing of defender Cole Kpekawa for an undisclosed fee from Championship rivals QPR. 

The England Under-20 international has signed a three-year contract at Oakwell.

Meanwhile, Scunthorpe have signed Norwich left-back Harry Toffolo, 21, on loan until January and former Rangers forward Nicky Clark has left Bury to join Dunfermline on a two-year deal.

Football agent Jon Smith speaking to BBC Sport: "It could be interesting today because the prices have got so silly that there is money in the bank account still. 

"The team that finishes bottom in the Premier League gets £94m so there is money to spend.

"The time to watch is between 14:00 BST and 19:00 because if the clubs haven’t positioned themselves then it will be difficult to get anything done."

"Most Stoke fans have earmarked a striker as one of the main priorities this summer, and Berahino could fit the bill perfectly. 

"It was reassuring to hear our chairman say recently that the club won’t be held to ransom, but the clock is ticking and we seem increasingly desperate to sign a forward. It looks like Tony Pulis is playing hardball with his former club."

I understand a fee - thought to be about £29m - has been agreed between Leicester and Sporting for Algerian striker Islam Slimani.

Slimani is currently on international duty with Algeria, but he's been given permission to leave the camp to discuss personal terms.

Nothing signed yet then but it seems likely Slimani will join Algerian team-mate Riyad Mahrez at the King Power stadium this season.

Premier League clubs have topped £1bn of spending for the first time in a summer transfer window.

We told you earlier that Moussa Sissoko had been allowed to leave France's training camp to finalise a transfer and Tottenham could be his destination.

Spurs are thought to have bid around £25m for the Newcastle midfielder but the Magpies want £30m for the 27-year-old.

It's understood the Magpies are frustrated at clubs leaving any move late in the transfer window in the hope they will drop their price for Sissoko.

The desire not to sell comes right from the top as they don't need the money.
