Clapper ban football fans not so happypublished at 14:41 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2016

    Football

A group of 500 Leicester City fans have been banned from using cardboard clappers at matches.

The club hands out the clappers before every match, but fans in the King Power stadium's L section were told the use of the "clap banners" had been "suspended for the foreseeable future".

They were unable to use the clappers during Tuesday's Champions League match, with the club stating "a small number of individuals" had misused the clappers.

Cliff Ginnetta, chairman of Leicester City's official supporters club, told the Leicester Mercury: "It's the noisiest part of the ground and it's fair to say the fans are incredibly passionate.

"But we are not hooligans. There are women and children in L Block as well as pensioners."

'Stop using me for stories about Steven Gerrard'published at 14:04 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2016

    Football

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, when asked to rank Steven Gerrard among the world's best players: "Top players. How many do you have? Is Pele involved. Is Franz Beckenbauer involved? Is Johan Cruyff involved? Where should I start and end?

"He is a top player but it is not important what I think, it is important what the people think. I like him as a person. I saw him once playing live in a stadium when we lost with Dortmund here 5-0. It was not my best experience and that is all.

"But stop using me for stories about Steven Gerrard. You don't need me. If you want to write a story about him write it because he deserved it. I will give him all the help I can if he wants, that is 100% sure but stop talking here because it will not help Steven and it will not help me."

    Formula 1

Jenson Button is one of an elite handful of drivers who have emerged as true superstars of Formula 1 in the last decade.

Along with Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel, Button has been a member of a group who were at the forefront of what in future years will be looked back on as a golden era of F1 talent.

He and outgoing McLaren chairman Ron Dennis were at pains to emphasise that his decision not to race next season, made public at the Italian Grand Prix in September, was not a retirement announcement. But ahead of the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi he admitted he expects it to be his last race.
