World Cup-winning former England captain Martin Johnson believes the current England team could emulate his all-conquering team of 2003.

England play Australia on Saturday and a win will equal the record 14-match winning streak set by Johnson's men.

"We had a very experienced team at that point," Johnson, 46, told BBC Sport.

"You've got a group now who have been around for a couple of World Cups, and have got a lot of caps.

"Players like Ben Youngs and captain Dylan Hartley have 50 caps-plus, so they are getting into the part of their careers when they are at their peak," added Johnson.

"We still need more players to come through and really hit that world-class level, and when you have a squad of 20-plus guys like that, you have a chance to really do something."

Snooker never been stronger - Hearnpublished at 10:46 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    Ronnie O'SullivanImage source, Getty Images

Five-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan called snooker the "car boot sale" of sports (see 9:17 post) on Monday adding that it is a "nothing-type sport".

World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn has hit back.

"The game of snooker has never been in a stronger position. Prize money has trebled in the last five years," Hearn said.

"Ronnie's a massive name. He lives on another planet sometimes, but he's a massive draw and a great asset to the game. His latest comments are off the scale, even for him.

"There are many, many sports that would cut their arm off to be in the position that snooker's in. We're on an upward trend.

"In terms of prize money, there was a time, maybe five or six years ago, where we spent 10 years in the doldrums, there's no question about it.

"The game has rebuilt and is going from strength to strength, particularly in China, Europe, and obviously within the UK."
