    Christiansen won three gold medals in dressage at the Rio Paralympics, taking her career haul to eight.

    The rider from Berkshire, who has cerebral palsy, was victorious in the individual freestyle, grade 1a championship and mixed team event aboard her beloved horse Athene.

    In 2016, Christiansen did not finish lower than second in any FEI event she competed in.

    Sports Personality record: First nomination. Dressage has been represented before, with Charlotte Dujardin finishing fourth in 2014.

    England captain Alastair Cook has been speaking post-match following his side's eight-wicket defeat to India in the third Test.

    Cook has confirmed teenage opening batsman Haseeb Hameed is out of the remainder of the tour with a hand injury.

    Hameed batted down the order for England due to the injury but did score an unbeaten 59 in the losing cause.

    He faced 156 balls and lasted 170 minutes at the crease, scoring his second international half century.

    Fraser Posford on Facebook: So many deserving athletes. For me it has to be Alistair Brownlee for making history winning a second consecutive Olympic gold in one of the hardest sports there is (triathlon), plus helping Jonny finish the world series final when he had severe heat exhaustion/dehydration was an amazing act of sportsmanship and brotherly love.  

    Ian James-Bailey: Congrats to all nominees but for me this is a no brainier. Alistair Brownlee should win this purely for selfless sportsmanship.

    Formula One world champion Nico Rosberg says the debate around Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton's tactics in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is "pointless".

    Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live this morning the German said: "It's done, it's a thing of the past and it's fine."

    Hamilton ignored team orders and drove deliberately slowly in an attempt to back Rosberg into rivals.

    Rosberg said he "understood" the Briton's tactics and "respected" Hamilton because they were "really good friends back in the day".

    Brownlee became the first man to retain the Olympic men's triathlon title, finishing ahead of brother Jonny, who claimed the silver.

    The Yorkshireman later made headlines across the world when he selflessly helped his exhausted brother over the line ahead of him in a dramatic end to the Triathlon World Series in Mexico.

    Alistair won two ITU World Triathlon Series events - in his home city of Leeds, and Stockholm.

    Sports Personality record: First triathlete to be nominated for the award.

    Here is some more reaction to the news a plane carrying 81 people, including a top Brazilian football team, has crashed on its approach to the city of Medellin in Colombia, officials say.

    Police say five people survived the crash but the rest of those on board died.

    Steve Bruce has made an impressive start to life as Aston Villa manager.

    He took over from Roberto di Matteo in October with the team 19th in the Championship and has taken them up to 11th, four points off the play-offs.

    Speaking to Mark Chapman and former Villa player Andy Townsend on BBC 5 live last night, he said: "I've probably waited 20 years for an opportunity like this one."

    Liverpool will step up their interest for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Christian Pulisic, following Philippe Coutinho's ankle injury.

    According to the Daily Mail, external, it would take a bid of £25m for the German club to consider selling their 18-year-old.

    The American has made 14 first-team appearances for Dortmund this season and has scored twice and made six assists.

    Coutinho meanwhile could be out until mid-January with injury.

    Bale scored three times as Wales reached the semi-finals of Euro 2016 after qualifying for their first major tournament since 1958.

    Bale, who joined Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2013 for a then world record fee of £85m, has helped the Spanish side win five trophies in the past three seasons, including the Champions League twice, in 2014 and 2016. 

    He is on the shortlist for the 2016 Ballon d'Or award, and also made the top three for Uefa's Best Player in Europe title which was won by Cristiano Ronaldo.

    Sports Personality record: Eighth, 2014. Fellow Welshman Ryan Giggs was the last footballer to win - in 2009.

    Lancashire head coach Ashley Giles says he hopes his future at the club is resolved quickly, admitting it's a "sensitive issue".

    The former England spinner has been in charge at Lancashire for two seasons but has been linked with a move back to Warwickshire - who he coached between 2007 and 2012.

    Everton manager Ronald Koeman wants to reunite with Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk and is willing to pay the Saints' £40m asking price, according to the Daily Mirror, external.

    Van Dijk, 25, has impressed for his club this season and has also reportedly attracted interest from Manchester City and Manchester United. 

    Koeman signed the Dutch central defender for Southampton from Celtic in 2015.

    Snooker is a "car boot sale" while other sports are like shopping at luxury department stores, according five-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan.

    "Snooker has become a nothing-type sport, but it's still great," he said.

    "They're just putting so much of it out there, it's just cheap TV and a filler for other programmes - snooker has lost respect amongst other sports.

    "You watch Formula 1 and you see beautiful-looking people. You look at snooker and you think, 'God.'

    "It costs £5 to get in at some of the qualifying events and see a top-class player - it's like a car boot sale whereas their sports are like shopping at Harrods."
