Call me old fashioned, but I simply can't come to terms with central defenders who wear gloves. As a consequence, I have always tended to distrust Nicolas Otamendi.

It is a totally irrational position to hold as his mittens can't possibly determine how well he defends a corner. In any case I may have to revise my stance based on how well he defended against Arsenal in the second half.

We've never abused the system - Brailsfordpublished at 13:41 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

    Cycling

Team Sky chief Sir Dave Brailsford is sat down in front of a Culture, Media and Sport select committee talking on cycling's fight against doping - and Bradley Wiggins' TUEs.

"We have created a very clear policy and clear structure on anti-doping. Members of the team have to operate within those rules. And if they didn't then I'd want to be the first to know," he says.

"We have confidence in the medical team and in the team. With regards Bradley's first TUE it wasn't just the doctor on his own - we took Bradley to an independent consultant. It was a clear recommendation.

"There's a triple lock for TUEs. The rider, the medic, the independent consultant. Then it goes to Wada to sanction it - or not. It gives you a lot of confidence and I trust that system.

"It's about use and abuse. And we've never abused the system."

British Cycling is clean - Suttonpublished at 13:20 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

    Cycling

Former British Cycling technical director Shane Sutton says he never asked for details about Bradley Wiggins' TUEs.

"For me to go into detail - I'm not a doctor. My job was outside of that medical team, my job is to train the rider, their job to make sure the riders are fit and healthy within the rules," the Australian tells the Culture, Sport and Media select committee.

"It is a clean team that has strict rules and doctors adhere to the policy - so why would I need to ask? Our record has been unblemished.

"These athletes have been tested more than anybody else in the world. This team - going from Laura Trott to Jason Queally to the Pendletons and the Hoys - have all done it clean and it has been proved they have done it clean.

"I'm upset that you question the integrity of our team which is the greatest British team ever."
