Northampton have escaped sanction for fielding an under-strength team in their Champions Cup defeat by Leinster, but European bosses have sent a pointed reminder that clubs must protect the "integrity of the tournament" .

Saints rested the likes of Tom Wood, Courtney Lawes and Louis Picamoles for the clash in Dublin, and were hammered by 60 points to 13.

European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) officials assessed the matchday squads following the weekend, and have ruled that Saints did not break any tournament regulations.

However EPCR have warned that clubs have an obligation to pick full-strength sides at all times, and are prepared to take action in future.
