She makes you feel that pressure - Konta on Williamspublished at 09:43 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

Britain's Johanna Konta described her quarter-final defeat by Serena Williams at the Australian Open as the "best experience of my life".

An emotional Konta, who was playing the 22-time Grand Slam champion for the first time, said she would come back stronger from the 6-2 6-3 defeat.

"There's so many things I can learn from that," the 25-year-old said.

"I don't think there's one player that goes up against her and feels they've got much of a say in the matches.

"She's able to really make sure that the points are on her terms.

"Even if she's on the defence, it makes you feel that you have to do more with the ball. She makes you feel that pressure."

    Sounds terrifying tbh...

It’s looking increasingly likely Manchester United youngster Sean Goss will be leaving Old Trafford on a permanent basis this month.

United have agreed a fee for 21-year-old Goss with QPR that could reach £500,000.

However, personal terms are yet to be agreed and it is understood other Championship clubs, including Barnsley and Wigan, where Goss’ former coach Warren Joyce is now manager, are also keen on the England Under-19 international.

“I was pleased with the reaction of the team. It was a good performance and we need to build on that against Manchester United.”

Silva also confirmed that both Robert Snodgrass and Curtis Davies are unavailable for Thursday night’s match.

Hull manager Marco Silva has been speaking about tomorrow's EFL Cup semi-final against Manchester United.

His team go into the second leg with a 2-0 deficit but said: “Manchester United won’t think the game is over, I know the team, I know the coach and I am sure they won't do this.

“It is a different competition and a different test, but we will try to get the job done and win the game. That is our aim.”

Silva has also said the whole squad plan to visit Ryan Mason in hospital following the side's FA Cup clash away to Fulham on Saturday.

The midfielder has been recovering at St Mary's hospital in London after fracturing his skull in a collision with Chelsea captain Gary Cahill on Sunday evening.

The other two games - Oxford v Bradford and Luton v Yeovil - were called off because of frozen pitches.

Champions Ivory Coast out of Afconpublished at 08:58 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    Morocco 1-0 Ivory Coast

"If you want to win, hire a Finn" was the phrase that went around motorsport for a while.

"If you want to win the Africa Cup of Nations, hire Herve Renard" may be the football equivalent.

Not as natty, I'll admit, but it may be just as accurate after his Morocco side sent champions Ivory Coast (whom he led to the 2015 title) out of the competition after a 1-0 victory on Tuesday night. He also won the tournament with Zambia in 2012.

Rachid Alioui scored the only goal of the game - a terrific shot from 25 yards that consigned their opponents to third in group C, booking them a ticket home.

No imminent plans for Old Trafford expansionpublished at 08:44 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    Football

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Manchester United have no imminent plans to increase the capacity of Old Trafford in the wake of work to bring the stadium in line with accessibility guidelines.

The work is going to reduce Old Trafford’s capacity to around 73,000.

This has led to speculation United may sanction redevelopment work that would centre around major building work on the main stand.

However, whilst BBC Sport understands it is possible over the long-term, the immense cost of the project, which would require building over a railway line at the back of the stand, means it is unlikely to happen in the near future.

Yep, BBC Sport can officially announce it is to show the World Fish Lifting Championships live on BBC One...

    Not really.

This is Japan's first home-grown sumo grand champion in almost two decades, boosting the traditional wrestling sport.

Kisenosato, 30, was promoted to the top-most yokozuna rank after his win in the first tournament of the year.

He is the first Japanese-born wrestler to make it since Wakanohana in 1998. Five wrestlers from American Samoa and Mongolia have made it in the interim.

Foreign wrestlers have come to dominate sumo, amid a lack of local recruits.

Kisenosato, who comes from Ibaraki to the north of Tokyo and weighs 178kg (392 pounds), has been an ozeki - the second-highest rank - since 2012.

Togo captain Emmanuel Adebayor says he has had interest from English clubs and still feels he can play in the Premier League.

“Yeah I’ve had a few contacts. Even though I’m not the most loved player in England, I love the Premier League.

“I have done a lot of work in the shadows to be here today and prove to everyone that i can still play football that I still have football in me and I’m passionate about the game."

The former Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham forward does not plan to retire from international football yet.

"This Togo belongs to me and I belong to them. So I can’t see myself going out now because going out now is like coming out of the boat. And I'm the captain of the boat."
