Leicester win 'can lift doom and gloom'published at 08:20

    Football

There were shades of Ricky Villa in Demarai Gray's mazy run through to goal to seal Leicester's victory over Derby.

Fair to say the FA Cup is not held in the high regard it was when Villa's wonder goal gave Spurs victory over Manchester City in 1981 and there were a total of 18 changes made by the managers in last night's replay, but former Leicester boss Martin O'Neill said it was a "really big win" for his old club.

"I'm delighted they've done it," he added. "I think there has been a lot of doom and gloom around the place and that will lift it."

Recap: Fed Cuppublished at 08:10 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2017

    Great Britain v Latvia

Great Britain got off to the best possible start yesterday in the Fed Cup with a 3-0 win over Portugal in their Europe/Africa Group 1 match.

But they're back on court again today taking on Latvia.

Now if that all sounds rather confusing, here's a quick recap on the Fed Cup format -

    • Great Britain are playing in the Europe/Africa Group 1 competition
    • GB - featuring Johanna Konta, Heather Watson, Laura Robson and Jocelyn Rae - are in Pool C, along with Portugal, Turkey and Latvia.
    • Yesterday, they played three rubbers (two singles, one doubles match) against Portugal and won 3-0.
    • Today, they play three more matches against Latvia, and if they top the group they will play the winners of Pool B on Saturday. (Latvia beat Turkey yesterday so also have one win)
    • The winners of that tie will then go forward to a play-off in April, and the winners of that will be promoted to World Group II in 2018.
